I've a CPU AMD FX-6300 6 Core 3.5 Ghz (4.2Ghz Turbo) but The problem is that if I run a task, BOINC uses only one core of my processor while I wish it uses 6 at the same time, so I am forced to launch 6 tasks to use 100% of my CPU. How can I use my 6 cores to one task ?

Some (a few) projects experiment with multithreaded applications but the majority of BOINC projects works single threaded. Many BOINC users run a project mix on their computers, running multiple BOINC tasks at the same time is just normal.

p.s.: you can limit the number of threads in the Computing preferences, the value to modify would be On multiprocessors, use at most xx processors

You have to change the percentage in the Boinc Manager to do that...ie 83% means only use 4 of the 6 cores, while 99% would mean use all but 1 cpu core and 49% would mean only use 3 cpu cores. Go into the Boinc Manager, down by the clock, and click on Tools, Computing Preferences and then the processor usage tab. On the 2nd line up from the bottom is where you make the change..."on multiprocessor systems, use at most [] % of the processors(0 means no restriction)". The number is kind of funky but works like this...use less then the percentage of processors you want to use, ie if you have 100% it will use all of the cpu cores, but if you put 99% it will use one less than that, so in your case 5. Since 100 divided by 6 equals 16.6 that is the number you need to drop it by to get it to not use another cpu core, so 100 minus 16.6 equals 83.4, so you would put 83 in the box it would not use 2 of your 6 cores.

Be sure to click the OK box at the bottom of the page to save the setting and they will become effective immediately. My suggestion would be to change ONE thing at a time and see how it affects your pc, each pc is slightly different. ALSO this is a per pc setting, so if you have multiple pc's this setting ONLY affects that one pc. To go back to the Boinc default settings you can always click the CLEAR box at the top of the page.

Also on SOME projects when you make the change you originally described it only takes affect when you download NEW units, all your existing cached units are still working under the old way.

Ok thanks so one core is approximatively 17% I set it to 50% for the moment. I can play and work during the progress.

Depending on how much you use your computer, and whether you leave it on 24/7 or not, you might get a better overall return if you left it to compute 100% but not do any work while it's in use.
