First, we are very sorry for this situation.

Admin of Asteroids@home (Kyong) went on vacation. He will be back on Sunday 17.8.

Big thanks for your patience.

Relax! We understand the nature of BOINC projects, (well, most of us anyway). Many of the smaller projects rely on very limited resources in terms of hardware, and people. We'll still be here when it is working again.

Most of us will still be here. But as this is now the 3rd or 4th outage in the past several weeks some of us, myself included, are concluding that because it is so small and so under-supported that we should probably dedicate our resources elsewhere.

No worries from this corner, at least I now know it is not my end playing up! Leave him alone to enjoy his holiday! I'll just donate time elsewhere for meantime.

I have 36WU's ready to be uploaded. I just suspended Asteroids for now, and asked for no new work. When the WU's are uploaded I will go back to crunching numbers for asteroid. For now though, I just crunch another program. (Milkyway@home, Seti ETC) The real reason I'm posting is to say I'm amazed at the patience everyone is showing when these things kind of do happen. For the ones that aren't so patient, I can only say this.

Having worked in Global IT Infrastructure I can say that keeping any complex hardware/software system running 24/7/365 requires a HUGE budget and a TEAM of people. Very, Very challenging to do alone, and on college budgets. not at all surprised the admin took a vacation :)

750,000 points for Asteroids, can't wait to get my first million!!!

Love to everyone.

Thanks for the explanation - I understand now why our admin wasn't responding to Server status & message-traffic. Yes, it's difficult to admin w/miniscule resources. Unfortunately, there have been several Server problems in recent months that halt work & reporting -- I just run other projects till Asteroids bounces back up to operational status.

I feel bad for Kyong. It seems like he's the only admin, or at least the only one who fixes the server. It must be hard knowing that you can't even go on vacation without something going wrong. :(

Well, that's what the work buffer is for! It's not like the tasks are that big, so just download enough for a couple days and you'll be good! :)

Or like me and just do work for a different project while the server is down.

Well, I guess my 19 results will not become bad while they are desperately waiting for an upload. A relaxed admin will surely do better than a stressed one. ;)

"Why I can't upload my results? Sorry but I can't find a solution"

That is because there is nowhere for the finished tasks to be sent to. There is no solution other than to wait until Asteroid comes online. (assuming you're having issues due to Asteroid downtime) The Admin said he'd be back sunday, but depending on the issue on their side might take a few more days to get it up and running.

On a side note, maybe those who need to have the WU's uploaded quickly due to a close deadline should upload as soon as the server is ready, but if you have a pileup of WU's to be uploaded and can wait up to a week, I think it would help prevent overwhelming the server by doing so. That's why my completed WU's are waiting for me to manually indicate that they should begin uploading. After all, they're not due for another 12 days.

Love to everyone

Thanks for the info. I'm very new to a@h - assumed the problems were something I had done wrong - now I know server was down. Will try to put my 3 tablets back in the game when the dust settles. -John Chrzastek

No, it's nothing you're doing wrong on your end. But be advised that this most recent outage is just that - the most recent. As another user mentioned, the number of server failures varies on a per month basis, so as long as you're aware of and fine with, welcome to the project!

My queue was accepted for upload and was properly sent about 30 minutes ago. I got 480*22 cobblestones for it, 10560 total, which was right on target. Seems everything is getting back to normal... I hope lol... Cesium :)

The only thing wrong with vacations is that they end. Welcome back, Kyong. We're glad you're here, even if you might wish you'd had another week and a more peaceful return.

Yes, upload worked, but all attempts do download wu's result in errors.

Edit: forget that, right now I've got 3 wu's.

You'll probably get some WUs soon. I just got two days worth on two machines. Doubtless that the server is pretty busy right now with the rush of demand we're placing on it.

Hi, I am back. It is really bad when something happens while being on vacation. I was unable to fix this from there but I was noticed by some people about it.
