So, I see that we have badges which show up on or account pages. It would be nice if they showed up on our posts on the Message boards. That is a very nice feature at World Community Grid, and also at GPUGrid.

That doesn't work with Windows, gotta run Linux to get that.

The badges would take too much space under a profile, on GPUGRID, there is only one last badge but our badges aren't suppouse to replace the previous one so someone with 5 and more badges would have all these badges shown and I think it wouldn't look good. I think better is to put there in signature like others.

So, you know, I am very new here, and only making a suggestion. I do know that especially at WCG, having the badges show up in the forums is a very big deal.

Certainly, it is just a nicety, a touch of grace. But enabling just the most up-to-date badge and doing it for Windows crunchers, the vast majority of crunchers, would really be nice.

I am glad to suggestions, that's allright. But I would like to show them all beacuse of reasons I had written. Showing up just the last one isn't good because that is not medal but next badge. I will try to think it up if there is a possibility to show them without wasting space under the profile.

No. It's a big deal for you and a few others. Many others at WCG are greatly annoyed by "hey look at me" badges because they waste a lot of screen space. But you ignore them and believe EVERYBODY thinks like you.

The "hey look at me" thing and reality distortion are a way of life in your locale but not everywhere, believe it or not. And WCG sucks so why would a nice project like this one want to be like them?

Certainly, it is just a nicety, a touch of grace.

It certainly is not a nicety. It certainly is not a touch of grace. It's an annoying waste of my screen space and that's all it is. Look at the vertical height of your posts. Can you not see the text uses 1 inch and all the other garbage requires double that or more??? Hmmm? Yes, stats are garbage in my opinion.

I can disable your vain and annoying stats in project prefs but not your annoying "hey look at me" badges if they're in the box below your name. So my preference is for you to learn how to put your badges in your sig where I can hide them and have 3 posts on my screen instead of just yours. Having one post full of garbage instead of 3 posts with just the necessities is very annoying to me and many other posters here.

Yes, I was pulling your leg. Win users can put their badges in their sigs too. Hint: if you whine about how it needs to be automated instead of asking how to do it then we'll all know you're lazy.

Please make it so that we can hide the badges, similar to the way we can hide images and sigs in our preferences. I am interested in reading messages here not looking at mitrichr's phallic symbols.

Edit added:

Perhaps if you combine the avatar with the badges and make it one image. Yes, convert .png to .jpg requires overhead but then disabling the avatar disables the badges too.

In my opinion, the project was already running before the "vast majority of crunchers" came.
It's not important, but these "vast majority of trashusing people" babble annoys me a little. Don't want to offend anyone personally.
But from the first day on our Windowsfans cried for a windows application.
They got one. They even got one which crunches faster than the original LINUX App, pushing their RAC in a not very Sportsmanlike way.

And now i have to read something like "uh, do it, we are the vast majority...".
Erm, ignore me. I'm just a little angry.

mitrichr, you did just make a suggestion, it's absolutely okay, don't be bothered.
But i tend to have Dagoraths opinion.

I apologize for ranting. It's just that I'm sick and tired of having to buy bigger disks, bigger screens, more bandwidth, faster CPUs just to have it all filled with crap I don't want to see or hear about. Advertising popups, ad banners, a big box full of "hey look at all my credits, aren't I important", now badges... what's next?

Credits make me puke. When you shove them in my face then you make me wanna puke too. I'm here to crunch and do science. Your tawdry, macabre need to constantly tell me how wonderful you are via your badges and credits is sick, IMHO.

Anyway, no more problem with that, I use the Lynx browser now and all your garbage simply gets flushed down the crapper where it belongs. Tons of ads and other crap gone too... surfing the way it ought to be.... the way it used to be before Bill Gates and his lemming hoards invaded and brought the sickness with them.

One thing cykodennis mentioned that I don't agree with is that the faster Windows app pushes RAC in an unsportsmanlike way. I couldn't care less about RAC. If the Windows app is faster then I don't care. All I care about is crunching the numbers with minimal waste of my resources and in a way that respects the research of all the other fine projects and their hard working admins.

Ooops! I just ranted again. OK, I'll STFU. For a few minutes. On this topic.

Damn Dago, you're becoming weak and nice :-)

I am unsure with this creditthing. I'm just here because there is work to be done. But obviously, yeah, this credits symbolize how much work i've done.
Call me stupid, i know it's not very rational, but i'm from the working class, i like fair recognition for finished work.
And so, sometimes, this screwed up creditsystems in some projects annoy me a little.
Sometimes. A little.

The merits of credits and badges are one topic, forcing me to waste precious screen space displaying credits and badges against my will is a different topic. Normally I am happy to engage in any credit flamewar anywhere but my feelings are so hurt by your remark about me being nice I just can't carry on. My beady little troll eyes are red and puffy from constant sobbing. Earlier this afternoon I was so despondent I threw myself off a bridge but I landed on my own bed which broke my fall

The matter of being forced to waste my precious screen space displaying credit and badge crap I don't need to see is solved by using the text-only Lynx browser. Now it's a non-issue for me, Kyong can do whatever he wants.

Again really funny. Nice to read Your posts after coming back from the civil courts. Lol, lol, lol

Better than jumping off of a bridge... why not buying a new 25" screen? Had a friend who used the tv as screen... imagine 37" of screen. There's plenty of space in that so You could see all badges and points and whatever You wanted...

Was joking obviously.

Must agree with cykodennis.
Not that I really care about having my badges shown here in the forums, though it would add some colours.

Cykodennis You're not stupid; no way. I'm with You. I must admit I started to crunch in this project in order to get the "C" badge. The thing is that once inside... the tide turns and I just want to do crunch here to help.

Recognition for the work You do is good.

IMHO a good project should, besides a good target, have (to hook people):
a) good feedback with admins (not as the project Ibercivis used to be; don't know now but before they said nothing whenever asked Boooooooo!!!). In this project You're doing a good job with us.
b) apps for GPU to get as much processing power as possible
c) a badge system for those mortals who really don't understand what are we exactly helping to do/get/discover/whatever. At least, a conquer-the-badge competition can help the project. Using vanity of people is sometimes a good idea...
d) graphs/drawings/something like that (1 image is better than 1k words) to help ignorants think we understand something. Project WCG has a nice screensaver which explains, e.g., why is important fighting schystosoma (never heard it before)

Badges don't have to waste lots of space. If You see normal messages in this forum, You'd see that under the square with the nickname there's, normally, space enough for some badges. It would just waste a few bytes, no more.
