I don't think so. I stopped prioritizing this project since the September 2015 progress update.

Basically out of all the data being crunched, most of it is garbage. Only a small fraction of the work ends up being used to derive models. Without models, there isn't much scientific inference. I would be glad to hear of some new news if there is any.

so where weeding out most of the garbage data for good results on the few that work

The last paper published had figured about 1% of data had made models. I'd be interested to know if any key learning have been made. 99% data is a lot of cpu cycle that could be measuring gravitational waves, folding proteins, or modeling particle collisions.

true, but to learn to get rid of the bad data. we have to run it first

Hi all,
i recently started this project, but i don't see any update since 2015. Am I missing something or there is something going on?

I'll run it for several day more, but if no update were made i'll shut it down, and give my resources to some "live" project, i just don't see a point.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

When you fold proteins for Rosetta, there is only 1 predictor of the day of 30k active users. Is all the rest of work garbage? Come on!

This one looks a sign of life to me. ;)

I was writing something else... but saw Luigi's message. Maybe this project is alive.

I just think that administrator must say something from 2015 till now. I can't belive that no asteroids (or something interesting) wasn't found for 3 years...

as far as I understand this project, they are not searching for new asteroids. instead they try to create better models (shape, rotation etc) of already known asteroids.

ok i joined a few days ago an only crunched about 400 points.an haven't got any more work since. am i wasting my pc's time on the project? i crunched the 400 points on the 7th when i joined.

from time to time the workunits get spare. wait some days and a new batch gets generated.

Bloodrain/Luigi, I think you miss my point. When a way of folding a protein fails, that is useful at expanding knowledge and eliminating that method. When you crunch for prime numbers, either it is or isn't. When analyzing particle data collision for LHC, it is all valid data. The successes and failures of these work units both provide scientific value. That is fundamentally different then searching through junk data to hope at a low percentage chance at deriving something like asteroids or SETI.

@Clint: well, I don't know if it's possible to improve something like "model efficiency" or "input data skimming"... only a project scientist can answer you.

How do you figure out that 99% of data is junk if you don't crunch it?

as of 2023, are there any updates about new discoveries related to all the crunching we performed so far?
EDIT = I just saw there's a paper from 2020 in another board of the project, but that's the most recent one, I think
