According to an article i've found here the lightcurve inversion method you are using is highly parallelizable and therefore perfectly suited for processing on a GPU.

Are there any plans on developing a GPU application for this project?

Your Windows app is working wonderfully, congratulations! Not sure how long your to-do list is, and I can understand if you was to sit back a while and enjoy your Windows app accomplishment, but if you build a GPU app, I promise to use it on all my NVIDIA GPU's.

for me too...no matter ATI or NVidia...more important question is single precision or double precision...:-) i count and if you made so optimized GPU application as in PrimeGrid are (mainly for NVidia), so you are able to be 10-20 times faster than is win application...

Exactly the reason I don't contribute to GPU enabled projects - no point to waste CPU cycles.

It is true, if some project is able to go by GPUway, there is no reason waste time for CPUs on this project, there are many projects, which needs only CPUs...but you must understand, that brute force of GPUs are able to find in some projects results faster...and this is improvement...

one question - if you want to find asteroid, which can be potencional dangerous, by ARM or by GPU, which way do you choose? You will be waste your time by ARM? It is your opinion, YOU HAVE CHOICE!!! But if you havenĀ“t any other opportunity how help, every ARM WU helps...No matter how much you help, but you HELP!

I know many projects, where GPU is important like Einstein, WorldCommunityGrid, GPUGrid and others....and these projects can improve your life...using GPUs...

As long as I am stuck with RV610s, I leave the GPU enabled projects to others. There are way too many projects these days.
In fact slow ARM cpu means the unit would be validated later, thus possibly delaying the discovery.

As for Einstein, AFAIK their main application remains CPU-only. There is even an option not to receive CPU tasks of GPU enabled applications.

FYI: My GTX-660 at factory settings lasts an average of 24 seconds before crashing. I have attempted to throttle the GPU usage through the GUI, but as of this time, I can not get it to reduce utilization below 100%.

I have taken GPU processing offline to keep the processor from melting the solder off the board. :)

If this item bug can be fixed easily, please me know. With the advent of newer and faster graphics cards (from multiple vendors) every few months, it probably is not worth the time to investigate this specific issue. IMHO, unless the GPU routines are written for blanket coverage of GPUs keep it at the bottom of whomever's 'ToDo List'. Seems senseless to put a lot of effort into something that would probably work for the next 9 months then need revision(s).

NOTE: I seem to be processing work units fairly well without the GPU. At the time I write this, the main system I have has processed 83,040 work units in 8 days, without using the GPU and while running parallel with SETI
(which I am disabling until at least 2015).

Hi Bridget,
a little bit strange to many people, your wish to bring gpu utilisation down from 100%, most people try to bring it up to this value ...

But step by step: your nVidia card should be able to crunch the gpu wu's, but your driver is not the latest available. But this is not the problem you have.
I see many download errors, they cannot be fixed from your side. Others did not start before deadline, which usually means a too large work buffer. This can and should be fixed on your side. Other errors are not listed in the visible pages of your account.

The other thing is: a@h is a double precision project and the cheaper nVidia cards are not well suited for this type of math, they are very slow. Only the GTX x70 and and higher have better dp performance. AMD would be better, but there is no OpenCL app available.

So for the moment it might be the best advise for you just to disable gpu processing here, the speed gain would be in the range of 2 or less compared to cpu tasks. It's better to use the energy for cpu tasks.

Note that if the GPU applications are 10-20 times as fast, expect 10-20 times as much load on the server unless the total number of workunits available each day is limited.

I've taken a class in CUDA programming and tried to take one in OpenCL programming. Neither covered just what software to install on your computer to start that type of programming at minimum cost.

I have processed several work units on my GPU. You are the only project that does. If you would send only gpu work, I would open the gate. My main project is WCG


There are several projects that can use a gpu for crunching, whether they can use your specific gpu I don't know, but MilkyWay, PrimeGrid, Collatz, Moo, Einstein, Poem, Seti, BitcoinUtopia and GpuGrid are some of them can use both a gpu and a cpu for crunching their workunits, and even WCG has had gpu workunits in the past.

WUprop don't run on GPU, it is NCI (Non-CPU-intensive) app - one task per computer, no matter how many CPUs or GPUs you have.
The purpose of this one task is to monitor all other tasks running and measure CPU time, RAM used, Disk space used, etc.

So it is normal that "No GPU tasks reported" on the WUprop project.


For NVIDIA Quadro 1000M
