We are happy to present you another set of applications that will utilize those CPUs, which possess the FMA instruction set!

It was built to support both Linux and Windows OS with 64bit architecture.
What must be taken into account with these applications is that depending on the CPU architecture, generation, model, version, speed and number of utilized cores, in some cases the FMA applications may run slower than the corresponding AVX ones because of how those instructions are handled on different architectures, details that I'll not going further here as there is a lot of information on Internet. Also, there could be another case using even the same FMA application. For instance, there could be a situation where on the same particular system, having your preferences restrict the use of just a single core of, let's say, an Intel(R) Xeon(R) W Processor Xeon W-2195 of the Skylake-W Architecture, that single core will run much faster, close to processors' Turbo frequency of 4.3GHz, than if your configuration allows the client to utilize let's say 12 or more cores. In the second case those cores will run close to the processors' base frequency of 2.3GHz, depending on their actual number, which will result drastically in lowering of the application performance. Take a look at this article where under the "Per Core Turbo Data" chapter you will find explanation about how the Turbo ratio limits works.

Still, while the Boinc server is capable of finding the best performed application for every particular system, taking into account multiple factors, and after a while it will start sending the right one for every particular system. Which means that even if your CPU is equipped with the FMA engine it still might receive an AVX tasks and there is nothing to be concerned.

So happy crunching and thank you for your support!

We are happy to present you our latest CUDA application v102.16!

It was built on top of CUDA's v11.8 SDK and thus it will be able to utilize the vast majority of cards with Compute Capabilities (CC) between 5.0 till 8.9 adding support for the Ampere & Ada Lovelace micro architecture, and all the Tegra & Jetson modules.
Of course, it comes with its own requirements for the driver's versions, depending on your architecture, as those before it.
In order your client to be able to receive it your computer must have one of the following Nvidia driver versions installed:

  • For Linux x86_64 and Linux AArch64 >= 450.80.02
  • For Windows x86_64 >= 452.39

Here is the list of supported by the v102.16 application GPUs by their CC provided by Nvidia.

So happy crunching and thank you for your support!

Hi everyone,

Server is finally up and running again after more than a year of being down. Everything is migrated to a new server and we hope it will run smoothly for a long time. There are still some minor issues but nothing crutial and all minor tweeks will be done during the time.
I would also like to thank to Georgi Vidinski who has helped with solving some problems.

Server is now ready to continue operating and there will be more workunits to send. But please be aware that it is still a temporary solution because new server won't by any sooner then on May or June and there still might happen some problems.

BOINC server is now running but it is still a temporary solution and there is still some additional work that needs to be done. New workunits should be available in a week or two.

I am very sorry for this, I just really didn't have much time to check the forum. I was checking it now and noticed the problem. When I fixed the previous problems I was testing everything except uploading which I really didn't think to be a problem. BOINC server just didn't create a new log which should be done automatically due to which it was unable to upload finished work. I just created it and I can see in the log file that upload is running. I hope this was the last problem. There just might be some short timeouts now because network has very high load now but when all work will be uploaded it should be good.

I am sorry for server outages which was happening recently. There were several factors which often caused lack of free space and some services crashed and I had to do an emergency shutdown on Saturday in order to fix everything so I couldn't inform you about it except for Twitter. There is still a hardware problem with one of servers which I have to fix but the server is not being used now so project should be stable now.

Today we released a new CUDA102 application v102.14 for both Windows & Linux.
A bug was fixed where application causes 100% utilisation of whole CPU core (thread in hyperthreaded CPUs)

Are Linux WUs available? Applications page shows they're running.
I tried Reset. Then Update. Update.
Win7 computers getting steady supply of WUs.
Checked Preferences & Nvidia GPU selected. No CPU.
Latest Nvidia driver.

What's the trick to get Linux WUs ???

Can you please update project now? There was only windows version for new GPU till today and I released linux version sometime after your post so you should be getting some work for GPU by now.

If you mean you're trying for just GPU tasks then I have the same issue.

My problem is that I have a new GPU (RTX2080S) and the application tells me to update my drivers to get tasks.

I'm already on the latest Linux driver I can find but it's less than the Windows one so no work :(

I checked your computer with RTX2080S but unfortunately you don't have the latest nvidia linux drivers. Your BOINC client reports 440.26 but minimum required version is 440.33 and the latest version is 440.82. So you really need to update nvidia drivers.

We are proud to present you the new CUDA application that was released by our team yesterday.

What's improved?
- We've Added support for latest Compute Capabilities (CC). Application was built with latest CUDA SDK v10.2 adding support for latest NVIDIA devices with Compute Capabilities (CC). This build supports CC 3.0, 3.5, 3.7, 5.0, 5.2, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, & 7.5 from Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal, Volta & Turing architectures and their GeForce, Quadro, NVS and Tesla series, but does NOT supports Tegra and Jetson SoC Series devices (CC 3.2, 5.3, 6.2 & 7.2) which are not subject of interest for this project.
- Fixed issue with special Light curves which has more than 1000 points.

There is no x86 (32bit) version. CUDA 10.2 supports x64 (64bits) operating systems only.

Side effects that could be observed because of the update.
If your client shows unusual "Remaining time" for the tasks you can follow these steps:
1) Set "No new tasks" from "Project" tab for "Asteroids@Home" project.
2) Then you need to finish your recently downloaded tasks.
3) When all are done and reported to the server please reset the project with 'Reset project' button at Project tab.

We also suggest to use the latest stable version 7.14.0 of BOINC client.

And last but not least we strongly suggest users, who has CUDA enabled devices to upgrade their drivers to the latest one. For today it is 442.74 - WHQL. You will find it here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/158759/en-us
For legacy drivers you will find drivers here: https://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy

Despite new CUDA application is release we will continue to support older devices with older drivers by the previous CUDA55 application.

I would also like to thank Georgi Vidinski who made this release possible.

Not a problem, I have written it many times that we don't have continuous work to send. I'll be adding new storage server at January so after that work should finally be continuous.

Just the problem with free space again so db_purge stopped working. But I have good news, new server is finally bought. Server is different than originally planned so I'll have to make some stress tests. I suppose that I'll be adding it at the second half of January.
