I think that's it for me. It's time to get set up with some other more stable DC projects.

I'll let my machines finish up whatever work is left in their queues so it will hopefully get uploaded at some point soon.

My own valid record shows as 24334. I agree, we don't probably don't need to know that far back.

The only tasks I really look at are the ones with errors to make sure I don't have a machine with a hardware/software issue.

Alexander, your point is an excellent one and I completely agree with you!

On a bright note, the issues this morning were addressed quickly, so that's good. :)

Thanks for the info. I'm very new to a@h - assumed the problems were something I had done wrong - now I know server was down. Will try to put my 3 tablets back in the game when the dust settles. -John Chrzastek

No, it's nothing you're doing wrong on your end. But be advised that this most recent outage is just that - the most recent. As another user mentioned, the number of server failures varies on a per month basis, so as long as you're aware of and fine with, welcome to the project!

Stop moaning. All projects suffer glitches from time to time.

True, but nearly every project has more than one person able to correct issues and even if not, at least able to communicate and let people know what's going on and when it may be fixed. That rarely happens here.

If I had just one machine running the project, I'd be more patient but I have access to quite a few more resources so I don't want them sitting idle or unable to process if I'm going to make the time to manage and use them for someone else's project.

So I'll moan if I want to. Every hear of "Squeaky wheel gets the grease." Same here - if not, it's time to go elsewhere, which I'd happily do if yours is the attitude of others.

Most of us will still be here. But as this is now the 3rd or 4th outage in the past several weeks some of us, myself included, are concluding that because it is so small and so under-supported that we should probably dedicate our resources elsewhere.

You assume correctly. Glad I set my buffers for a couple extra days after the last outage.. a few outages back. :/

The going theory over in this thread: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=333 is that the server may have run out of disk space some time prior to 7:32 UTC on Aug 12th.

I'm posting here in case the Admin(s?) check or are alerted to activity in this category of forum message more often.

Yes, something is wrong - admin thinks it's an internal BOINC issue. I've got hundreds of results myself waiting to get uploaded too and being deferred.

Welcome to the club!

I keep a minimum work buffer of 3 days regardless of the project, and with this project in particular(based on experience) an additional 2 days.

If I were only managing 1 or 2 machines, it wouldn't be an issue to switch to another project, but when you're managing dozens it's a bit more tedious.

Kyong, thank you for responding and addressing the problem. Are you the only admin for the entire project? I see you have lots of titles for yourself so perhaps you are.

Maybe you could find a couple others who could assist you? There certainly seems to be some talent in these forums for rooting out the causes of issues - perhaps one or two of those folks would be willing to assist further?

Yes, it's frustrating. Between this and the last recent outage, I'm considering other projects. I'm not telling anyone else to do the same, but with a larger "fleet" to manage it's not worth the hassle.

What irks me the most is the lack of communication in even just acknowledging that there is indeed a problem.

I work in the IT field myself as a network technician, and while people would like an immediate tech fix, they know it's not always possible to do. So I acknowledge the problem exists and reply that we are gathering information about it and preparing a solution. I may not be able to provide a concrete time for the solution but the acknowledgement of the problem often goes a long ways toward resolution and easing frustration as well as stifling potential conflict.

I noticed this morning (currently 2:54pm EST here) that there were problems uploading results. I checked the project and got the message:

"Unable to connect to database - please try again later"

It had apparently cleared up 10:30am EST when I checked again. However, I'm now seeing deferrals again on the upload of completed work units.

Anyone else care to confirm? Other members of my DC team are also seeing this.

Yea I hope it'll be back up soon too, I've got 36 results rdy for u/l which expire 2/7/14 18.34! And then a load more for 3/7/.
They were finished yesterday/day before & were only crunched late because I started another project & BOINC shunted the remaining WUs back. Fortunately I'd already stopped A@H from getting new WUs (stopping A@H for a couple of months or so to crunch R@H).

I have hundreds of results to upload. ;)

I've switch to Enigma@Home for the time being, but will switch back when the project comes back online.

Okay - my mistake, I must've seen it earlier on Saturday. Regardless, it was originally posted as beginning a month later, so it was still too late to change buffers. :/

Yeah, I saw the maintenance announcement Friday night about it being scheduled to occur on July 28th; at the time I thought it was a little strange to announce a month ahead of time, but better than a day or so! Had I known it really was to begin a day later, I'd have increased my buffers a little. Too late now. :(

Look at the time the announcement was posted:

Posted: 28 Jun 2014, 12:39:23 UTC

And the maintenance started at 13:00 UTC on 28 Jun 2014. Thus it did begin a little over 20 minutes after it was announced.
