I'm not so concerned about time of completion, since there are no WU's available as of 01:45 PST... Where's the BEEF?

BEEF???no Beef, as a newbie just wanted to understand the estimated time difference between W/U`s, now i understand. As far as no new W/U`s, i got 6 new W/U`s this morning.

best regards,

Tom.

i don't think Viking69 is suggesting you have beef with anyone regarding the new estimated run times...i think he meant "where's the new work" when he said "where's the beef," b/c the server seems very low on new tasks ready to send right now...

i imagine that the massive increase in estimated run times is a result of having updated most of the applications a few days ago...though i can't confirm this b/c i currently have a queue full of Einstein@Home work, and probably won't get any new A@H tasks for a while.

well the download errors are not gone by any means, but they certainly seem to be fewer and far between now. before the server migration, sometimes upwards of 50% of my downloads would error out. now its probably <5%.

i thought it might be worth noting that i too was having problems just after the new server went up. specifically, i couldn't report completed tasks b/c the "server can't open database," and uploads were sluggish as hell. now all my uploads finished while i was out to dinner, but i haven't seen any new uploads, so i can't confirm that uploads are moving any faster now...however, i have been able to fetch new work, and not only did everything download quickly, but i didn't get a single download error! now maybe i spoke too soon, so i'll keep an eye on future bulk downloads to see if any appreciable fraction of them error out during the download.

^ i got 59 new tasks earlier, and only 3 failed to download properly. that's a big improvement over the previous scheduler request where i got 60 new tasks and every last one of them failed to download.

yep...all my errors are "download errors" too...the rest are validating fortunately

The net line was a little overloaded by preparing new workunits. All workunits with download errors will be resent to another cruncher.

I am up to 932 download failures so far. The last time this happened the input files were missing from the server so they cannot be downloaded. Due to the project allowing up to 20 errors per work unit it might take a while to fail them all.

Due to the fact they never download BOINC thinks it has comms problems and backs off up to 24 hours, even though its probably a server-side issue.

Kyong has finally found where is the problem and he is working on. There is a mismatch between database and filesystem. The problem is caused by server crash we experienced last week.

We are sorry for that problem.

no worries...we're just glad you found the source of the problem and are in the process of fixing it.

hi i am new to this program I have not much experience, but I have seen several UFOs, the last was on Wednesday August 14, 2013 and June 1991 saw it clearly. September 2nd Monday on my laptop appeared a chart for several seconds in movement took a turn and trailed off. anyone know how I can find this chart to see what it was?

i don't know the answer to your question, but i thought i would translate it for the majority though...also, a moderator may want to turn this question into its own separate thread in the appropriate sub-forum...

Thanks for the reply HA-SOFT. I thought I had to do something manually, like I do for Seti. Can't wait for the cuda, as I have lots of capability I'm willing to contribute. Rick

oh my god you're not kidding...i just saw your arsenal, and your GPU power is insane! of the 5 multi-GPU machines you've got on A@H right now, might i ask what motherboards you're using in each of them?

thanks,
Eric

this is great news!

it appears that there are multiple optimized apps being developed right now - are multiple developers competing to create the most efficient optimized app for a single platform? or has the work been split up such that an optimized app is being developed as an alternative to each of the 11 standard apps?

i got a response from Thor this morning...

he is in fact using an optimized application, but he did not write it - the author of said application is a team member of his (he did not specify who). that user compiled and distributed the optimized app to his teammates for testing purposes just before leaving on vacation. its not real clear whether the app is still being tested or if its ready for release...and i don't know when the author is due back in town, but Thor knows to get back to me once he knows more.

I guess there are 2 important questions. Are the the computers running the optimized application producing scientifically valid results and if so, are the developer(s) willing to share the optimized source code with Kyong?

i'm hoping that those who are currently utilizing optimized applications for this project (if that's in fact what's going on here) aren't PPD zealots. it will ultimately hurt the project if the people with the skills to create optimized apps kept those apps to themselves. of course i don't want to jump to conclusions and offend anyone, so perhaps no optimized apps have been published on the message boards yet b/c these developers haven't yet perfected their optimizations. for instance, while the project's top host (whose owner remains anonymous) has 5278 valids and 0 invalids, a substantial fraction of that host's errors are actual computation errors (as opposed to deadline lapses or server-side cancellations).

i'm still waiting to hear back from Thor.

No, I didn't send anyone my testing optimized apps. A few people ask me for source codes but I don't remember now who was it, so it is possible that those computers have some kind of optimized application.

do you mean to say that the few people who you sent source code to may have compiled their own optimized apps?

For example i5-3470 ~35K/day

interesting that Free DC shows that host as having 8 CPUs, even though an i5 3470K is a non-hyper-threading quad core CPU...perhaps that host uses a dual-socket mobo?

Post:
greetings everyone,

i just joined the project and noticed that on that A@H statistics page, some of the highest RACs belong to hosts w/ very few cores. for instance, the top host has a non-hyper-threading intel core i5 4-core/4-thread CPU and has a substantially higher RAC than the 2nd highest ranked host, which is an intel xeon 24-core host. then i realized that the core i5 host is completing its tasks 10 times faster than the intel xeon host, and that the xeon host is running the stock v100.00 application, while the core i5 host is running "anonymous platform."

i searched the forum and came up empty-handed regarding info on any optimized applications and/or an associated app_info.xml file. obviously the project's top host platforms for which there are stock applications available are actually running an optimized application of some sort, or else their run times wouldn't be 10 times shorter than the average stock app v100.00 or v101.00 run time. could someone point me in the direction of the optimized app? even if it won't work with the one AMD host i've attached to the project with, i'd like to know the details in case i make the jump to an intel CPU.

TIA,
Eric
