As was to be expected the deadline was 1.6. 214h wasted. :(

Wow, that's a very slow host. My ancient P4 1.8GHz will complete a WU in 12 hours and that's barely worth the electricity costs O_o

Cheers,

Al.

To be fair, although there was only 20 minutes notice (probably due to impending catastrophic failure) the web pages and message boards are still up and running, so we haven't been left in the dark like some projects that just totally disappear.

Cheers,

Al.

Posted 7 Dec 2013 by ChertseyAl
A bit of notice would have been nice. Just took a machine apart to see why my Asteroids WUs were running so slow :( Hadn't been granted any credit, so didn't realise that they were meant to take twice as long for twice the credit at the time. They're getting validated now, so it makes sense.

Cheers,

Al.

The server status shows no work available:

http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/server_status.php

Also, this was already raised:

I haven't had a single WU validated since: 1 Oct 2013, 23:25:12 UTC

I guess the validator must be working, or someone would have complained. Therefore it must be connected to the WUs I've run, which are all linux ones since then.

Cheers,

Al.

No, nothing unusual with any of the machines, they work as expected on other projects, it's the apps that are wrong, not the hardware :) I'll just go NNW on everything that's got slower as it seems a bit silly burning the same amount of electricity to do less work.

I see none of my WUs have been validated today and I still have a huge backlog of work waiting for valiadation. Time to take a break and wait for everything to catch up I think :)

Cheers,

Al.

Some very quick benchmarks done on 6 machines, average CPU times in seconds:

Machine 'L' P4 XP32

v100.00 43956
v101.00 (sse2) 6054
v102.10 12853
v102.10 (sse2) 13650 SLOWER

Machine '2' Celeron XP32

v100.00 39362
v101.00 (sse2) 9920
v102.10 (sse3) 9839

Machine '5' P4 Linux32

v101.00 (sse2) 9138
v102.00 20213
v102.10 (sse2) 9101

Machine '6' P4 Linux32

v100.00 87784
v101.00 (sse2) 6989
v102.00 16181
v102.10 7416
v102.10 (sse2) 7031

Machine 'V' Celeron laptop XP32

v100.00 24582
v101.00 (sse2) 8380
v102.10 (sse2) 8397

Machine 'B' P4HT XP32

v100.00 48963
v101.00 (sse2) 9341

Basically, the new versions are at best no faster, and in 2 cases much slower.

Ah, sorry, didn't notice that the transitioner backlog was still at 9 hours :)

15) Message boards : Number crunching : Validator not working? (Message 1820)
Posted 28 Sep 2013 by ChertseyAl
Something wrong as the server status page shows the validators running and ...

Workunits waiting for validation 6
Workunits waiting for assimilation 3

But I've got hundreds of pending WUs where my wingman has completed, so the WUs seem to be stuck :(

Cheers,

Al.

The validator backlog is increasing ... This isn't going to end well ;)

17) Message boards : Number crunching : Validator not working? (Message 1796)
Posted 26 Sep 2013 by ChertseyAl
There is a huge validator backlog at the moment, but it doesn't seem to be clearing very fast. Either it's not working or it's unable to keep up with all of the delayed workunit flooding back in.

Cheers,

Al.
18) Message boards : Problems and bug reports : maybe not a problem (Message 624)
Posted 13 Jan 2013 by ChertseyAl
why not do 1 super fast?

Some projects (not many, and not this one) use multithreaded (mt) applications to use every core for just one work unit.

Anyway, it looks like you'll be able to get through a lot of work your computer running 8 in parallel so I wouldn't worry!

Cheers,

Al.
19) Message boards : News : Releasing windows application (Message 425)
Posted 9 Dec 2012 by ChertseyAl
Thanks for the Windows application, and thanks also for allowing it it run on the old BOINC versions that I use :)

As soon as I've achieved my current tagets at WCG I'll put all of my faster machines onto Asteroids. Milestones and badges here I come ;)

Cheers,

Al.

You missed the point.

Yes, but, Windows is more popular though innit? Isn't it though? Isn't it?

For example they now offer a heated tailgate option on trucks sold in Canada

Lordy. Either gay talk, or dagorath has got himself a new account. Never seen good old dag and joobly in the same room. CONSPIRACRY ;)

Cheers,

Al.

p.s. FTAOD I think we've got a live one, so trolling is allowed. It's the law. But maybe only in Canada :)
