I just had 10 WUs fail with the message "Download Failed". Updating the project seems to just retry the download which fails again, and resetting the project didn't work either.

... so upgrade did it.

If somebody still don't understand:
- there was no Hardware upgrade/change (the server is relatively new)
- this was "upgrade" of BOINC server code that broke things
Returning to previous BOINC server code was the fix

(BOINC server code is what you see as 'scheduler', 'feeder', 'db_purge', ...
http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/server_status.php
)

Oh... NOW I understand. (don't you just love updates. for every fix, they break 10 other things)

This computer doesn't crunch very fast, gets really hot, and it probably is very inefficient. I'll just stick with the computers that our family normally uses. (I'll probably boot up the linux drive just to finish up tasks. Maybe I'll take it to the library sometime... :P)

Thanks for all your interesting replies. I use my main computer for most of the crunching anyway. I just figured what the heck, let's add 2 more processors, even if they are a little slow.

THE END IS NEAR!!! There are currently only 61,649 tasks ready to send, and there are 148,433 tasks in progress! The average time to process tasks is 2.73 hours! This means that the project will run out of work very soon, possibly even tonight!

It is changing for the better:
Tasks ready to send 86,103
Tasks in progress 147,981

Thank goodness! I was worried there wouldn't BE any tasks this morning.

As far as Asteroids it is NOT on your end, Kyong is having some personal issues going on right now and can't babysit the machine when it goes wonky, and for some reason it is doing that alot lately. As of this morning, my time on the East Coast of the US, I am able to send back all of my Asteroid units just fine. so he did get that part fixed at least. I do not know if he fixed the get units part or not as I have switched to doing PG units with most of my cpu's for right now.

Personal life comes first, and there are many other projects that can process if this project has a temporary error. I don't know how old the server actually is, but if it keeps having problems maybe it's time for a new one.

That, or its just an update that broke something.

I take that back. One of the tasks is nearing the 15 hour mark, and around 80% complete.

I have a computer running on a Pentium 4 processor with hyper-threading and 2GB of RAM. Would this still be good for crunching, or is it just a waste of power? My main computer can crunch tasks in 3 hours or less, but this computer takes about 10 hours for each one.

One thing is for sure: this whole incident has taught me how important the task cache is. (I'm a control freak, so I set the cache to 0 so it would download as-needed)

Thank you so much for fixing the problem! It looks like the project might still run out of work though... Since the problem was fixed yesterday, the tasks ready to send have gone from 212K down to 130K...

As of right now, there are 221,851 tasks ready to send out. My computers are unable to make ANY connection with the project, and cannot report finished tasks or download new ones. The website and uploader obviously works, so what's going on?

For the past week I've been getting intermittent connections with this project. Sometimes tasks will not upload/download/report, other times the entire project and website won't load. Is the server just overloading?

Just an afterthought: What happens to the tasks that fail to complete? Are they re-assigned to someone else?

I just recently joined this project, and noticed that the tasks seem to fail on a few of my systems. On my Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 system they work fine. However, the tasks on the Kindle Fire and the Linux Ubuntu systems run for a few seconds, then go to 100% with the status "Computation Error". Is there a way to fix this? Is this specific to the OS, or just my system?

If it matters, the Linux Ubuntu system is actually just an external drive that I boot from on an old computer. (No internet on that one, so I boot on one with internet, download tasks, then boot on the one without internet)
