Profile: networkman

Your personal background.
I'm a 40 something happily married network technician with a district library system in west Michigan, USA. I've been involved with Distributed Computing since about 2001 when I was doing both Seti@Home and the RC5-64 project.

Eventually, I chose to focus my interests on more practical science projects that I thought would benefit more people; I'm not disrespecting any other projects' goals, it's just my take on the value of the projects from my own perspective.
Your opinions about Asteroids@home
There is so much we do not currently understand about asteroids, but as there have been asteroid impacts(meteorites) both here on Earth and as most recently observed on the Moon, it is vitally important that we understand as much as possible about them if we are to ever chart the orbits and prepare defenses against them!

Any future successful lunar outpost will need protection as the Moon doesn't have an atmosphere to protect it as the Earth does. Mapping the asteroids and their surfaces may help to determine the best methods for deflecting or destroying potential hazards.
