Profile: Kevin Brown

Your personal background.
I am 35 years old, and I live in Central Minnesota with my wife and our five children. I am a full-time student working towards my master’s in social work, and I work full time as an in-home mental health practitioner. I love science. I love to learn about science, I love to discuss science, I love to teach at home science to my kids, and I love seeing our world grow thanks to scientific advancements and all of sciences contributors. I enjoy reading on my Kindle and listening to Audibles. I drive about 600 miles a week on average for work, so I get a lot of time each week to unwind and listen to Great Courses, books on physics (Sagan, Tyson, Hawking, Einstein, Greene, Kaku, Feynman, etc.), history, philosophy, theology, and the occasional fiction novel. Most of all I enjoy spending time with my children, teaching them and being a part of their lives.
Your opinions about Asteroids@home
1. Why do you run Asteroids@home?
Like I mentioned above, I love science. I am interested in helping Asteroids@home fulfill their mission of increasing our overall knowledge of the physical properties of asteroids. I am a proud member of the Planetary Society (2017) and its Asteroids@home team (2019). I support and crunch numerous BOINC projects including Asteriods@home, Citizen Science Grid, Cosmology@home, Eintsein@home, LHC@home, Milkyway@home, Rosetta@home, SETI@home, Universe@home, and World Community Grid.

2. What are your views about the project?
I think the Asteriods@home projects’ mission is a great one and I look forward to reading more about its contributions to Big Science.

3. Any suggestions?
I think a social media campaign to promote the Asteriods@home and all the other BOINC projects, needs to be done. The only thing I wish is that I knew about Asteriods@home and BOINC a long time ago.
