Your personal background.
Hi, I'm a Retired satellite ground station Engineer. I'm a father and Grandfather I enjoy playing with my grand kids especially when the lego comes out.
My hobbies include Amateur radio (G8IVO) electronics construction and software writing usually a combination of both. I also grow vegetables you can't eat flowers, well most of them.
Your opinions about Asteroids@home
I retired a while back and stopped most of the BONIC work at that point but I have just restarted jan 2020. When I started in 2005 doing SETI@Home rosetta@home and climateprediction work in those days I had several machines at my disposal and they were always on doing light duties.
Since retirement this no longer applies so climate prediction work is out. 170 day commitment I simply cannot do. Seti@home work is usually hours only but is going to sleep for probably some considerable time so I was looking for something for my kit at home to do with it's spare capacity. I chose asteroid@home and Einstein@home I still run rosetta@home.
I run two raspberry pi 3B's one plus and one not as a redundant pair, continuously collecting data from some of my home built data collection and control units. these pi's are running light duty too, so they have been tasked with the job of doing the work. Though most of the time my laptop is on and when not in use (playing with grand kids etc :-) it too does some of the work.
At this point I have no real view on asteroids@home other than I hope it will be useful to the world in general. I'm sure as I read and find out more my opinion will form for this project and Enstein@home too.
