Your personal background.
I'm 58 as of January 2020 and have been running BOINC and affiliated projects since 2014. I live now in Aberdeen in Scotland, UK after 20 years in London, 13 in OZ, 3 in Mauritius and am originally from NZ. I work as a Project Analyst now but am also ex BBX World Service. I love walking, anything to do with Space, music particularly Jazz 'n Blues, I read for the Planet and eat books, and I love nothing better than being around people who love to discuss and dissect our World and beyond, it's my favourite thing to do.
Your opinions about Asteroids@home
I run these projects because I believe the general populi are in mortal danger of self-imploding on the intensity of focus of ourselves. We always need to think and reach beyond our home planet, beyond ourselves to seek not just answers to the mysteries of the cosmos, but solutions, potential warning signs for our own planet through changes and transformations in our Universes and galaxy structures. We have many expamples of crater remains of meteorite impact on Earth and have some knowledge of the effects they've had for life on earth, but we need much more understanding, we need to know how asteroid belts affect us, how they are changing, travelling, nearing, what are they made up up, where are they, how local are they...more questions than answers but that is part of the endless 'seek and find' fun of it all surely. With so many satellites now going into orbit around Earth, what impact will asteroid activity have on these and therefore our communications. These are just some of the things I'd like to know. I believe these projects to be of huge importance, and need their profiles raised in order for the general masses to not only, donate more computing time and power but to also keep the awareness at the forefront of our Home, Planet Earth. We have nowhere else to go but are we really the orphans of the Universe?, I think not. We need more space travel, how will navigating asteroid belts affect this, and if, as has been suggested, belts are common around dying systems, what questions does that pose for us? I'd also like to see some graphics simply because we all love pretty pictures.
