There are issues with management resources and low disk space on project servers. That's why they can't just generate zillions of WU's at once and have them available. Project has to operate with smaller sets and wait for validator to check WU's and then free up some disk space again. Something like that.

These outages have been regular, but usually there will be new work available again in a couple of days.

Well, first you could try resetting the project (in Boinc Manager). If that doesn't help then could there be some other project running which such many tasks that the work cache is full and Boinc doesn't want to download anything?
What message does event log show when you click update for Astereoids (to get new WU's)?

I'm having the same issue, no WU's have dropped in days. Was crunching along happily until September 5.

Your issue is not the same, because there has been WU's available for three days. Your situation has to have something to do with your host configuration, settings or something strange at server side having an effect only on your machine.

I would so much like to support this project, but lately I've had increasingly often moments when I've been thinking "why do I run these" or "I don't really know wtf I'm running".... and that's because the communication - from the project to volunteers - has become almost non-existent. That doesn't help with maintaining motivation.

I believe fixing that wouldn't really require much. Just some small updates now and then. A few easily understandable lines about what kind of results all volunteer computing has produced recently. Personally I would like to reach a certain goal of course, but all that road is going to be very boring if the "co-operative" standards on this project will remain like it is now. It feels like being left alone somewhere and crunching some tasks that I don't know what them are for.

These days there is regularly a shortage of available tasks. It's technically okay, no problem. "Keep at least 7 days of work" helps with that. But it would be interesting to hear even a few words how things are going behind the curtains. Being somewhere alone and not exactly knowing why to keep turning the wheel.. it tends to push motivation downwards.

Same goes for me too. I tried to re-attach an old host that was attached already in the past, but went through a complete wipe out. This host now has Linux and Boinc 7.8.4. Trying to attach via Boinc Manager... with not success... and error in the log says:

Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Please give some more information. What Windows version, what Boinc version... and what exactly happens when you try to attach this project.

What Boinc version you run? What does Boinc Event log say about GPU in start-up messages? Does it recognize the GPU? Is the GPU working with other projects (if you run any)?

Have you tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers? Download driver from Nvidia site, run the installer as administrator and choose custom options and clean install.

The server is still offline, not getting any new activities on my 5 hosts.
the wierd thing is sometimes it gets a task to one of the host as it shows in the stats.

Is the downtime extended?

Servers are not offline. Tasks are not available most likely because they have not been generated. So there are no new tasks to send at the moment (again). Despite of that, you computer might receive a re-sent task from some work unit because some other host somewhere has encountered a computation error or exceeded deadline until returning a result for that task.

Has Windows 10 on your computer performed a build update since you last time were running GPU tasks succesfully? If Windows has changed its version number, then the Nvidia GPU driver most likely needs to be reinstalled. You could update the driver to latest version at the same time and choose "clean install" on the installer options.

You could run Boinc in VirtualBox. Then there wouldn't be much to think about as that virtual environment would be isolated from everything else you have in your computer.

For the last few days, I've downloaded several WU's, all are listed as, "Ready To Start", but nothing is happening with them. I am running another project and that seems to be running fine. Computing preferences show that resources are split evenly between the two.

Hi!

If you suspend the other project (all other projects) does that allow any A@H tasks to run?

You could set max temp limit for your Nvidia GPU with a program like MSI Afterburner or eFMer TThrottle.

Why do you think you need it?
That "cc_config.xml not found" doesn't mean cc_config.xml is required. Normally it is not required at all.
Have you perhaps installed Boinc 'as a service' (on the Boinc installer options)? Then it can't find any GPU's.

If your Windows 10 upgraded itself you need to reinstall Nvidia GPU driver. Download it from Nvidia site and choose a clean install on the installer options.

You can find those options at 'Your account' .. 'Preferences' ... 'Preferences for this project' : http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/prefs.php?subset=project

It is possible to save different settings for four different locations. Then you could choose the current location (settings) for every host individually:
http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/hosts_user.php ... Computer ID .. Details ... Location.

After you make changes on the settings just hit "Update" for the project in BOINC Manager. Then the changes will apply.
