I was born in Hungary, before the fall of the Iron Curtain. While I was still young, my family fled - amid machine gun fire - from the totalitarian atheism of communist Soviet socialism (USSR). We lived for several months in a refugee camp near Vienna Austria. As my Dad had a masters in Mechanical Engineering, he got a job offer (a sponsor) relatively quickly.
I worked for NASA at Cape Canaveral, before going back to graduate school.
I have a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am also a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).
I spent 4 weeks interpreting for the centennial Olympic Games; I still speak (and read and write) Magyar.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God.
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.
From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father's side, has revealed him.

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

Love is patient and kind; it does not envy, is not proud, self-seeking, easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always trusts, hopes, perseveres. Love never fails.
The Holy Spirit's true fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."
The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning."
he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."
When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them. As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!"

But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"
And the angel said to her in reply, "The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God."
Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

The women who had come from Galilee with him followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb and the way in which his body was laid in it, they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Then they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment.
But at daybreak on the first day of the week they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground.
They said to them, "Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day."
And they remembered his words.
Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others. The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, but their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them.
But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home amazed at what had happened.

Milý Teofile, také tuto druhou knihu věnuji tobě. V té první jsem se snažil zachytit vše, co Ježíš dělal a učil od počátku
2-3 záměr se světem.
4 Když byli ještě pospolu, řekl jim, aby po jeho odchodu neopouštěli Jeruzalém, ale čekali tam, až Bůh vyplní svůj slib.
5 Vysvětlil jim: "Jan křtil vodou, ale vás Bůh v nejbližších dnech pokřtí svým svatým Duchem."
6 Učedníci se ho také otázali: "Pane, teď už konečně vezmeš do ruky vládu nad Izraelem?"
7 Odpověděl: "Není vaše starost, kdy to bude! Nechte to na Bohu, který jedná podle svých rozhodnutí.
8 Teď dostanete Ducha svatého a s ním zvláštní sílu k tomu, abyste se stali mými vyslanci nejen v Jeruzalémě, ale v celém Judsku, v Samaří a po celém světě."
9 Potom byl před jejich očima zdvižen vzhůru a zakryt oblakem.
10 Když se upřeně dívali za ním, objevili se vedle nich dva muži v bílém
11 a oslovili je: "Galilejci, co tu tak stojíte a díváte se do oblak? Ježíš od vás odešel do nebe, aby se jednou vrátil stejným způsobem."

Padesát dní po velikonocích začaly letnice, svátek vděčnosti za úrodu. Kristovi následovníci se opět shromáždili.
2 Náhle se ozval zvláštní zvuk, jako by celým domem provanul silný vítr.
3 Tu se jim objevil plápolající oheň, který se rozdělil a hořel nad každým z nich.
4 A všichni byli naplněni Duchem svatým. Projevilo se to tím, že získali schopnost mluvit cizími jazyky, které předtím neovládali.
5 V Jeruzalémě byli na svátky zbožní židé, kteří jinak žili mimo Palestinu v různých zemích a národech.
6 Ten zvláštní zvuk přilákal zástup těchto poutníků, a oni teď naslouchali učedníkům. Přitom každý slyšel, že mluví jeho rodným jazykem.
7 To je velice překvapilo a vzrušeně o tom hovořili: "Vždyť je známe, to jsou přece samí prostí Galilejci!
8 A každý z nás je slyší ve svém rodném jazyce! Mluví o tom, že Bůh udělal něco velikého."
9 Mezi posluchači byli Partové, Médové, Elamité, Mezopotámci, Judejci, lidé z Kapadokie, od Černého moře a z Malé Asie,
10 z Frýgie, Pamfýlie, z Egypta, Libye, z Říma, Kréty i Arábie,
11 rození židé i na židovskou víru obrácení pohané.
12 Ptali se mezi sebou: "Co se to děje?"
13 Ale někteří se tomu smáli a říkali: "Vždyť jsou opilí!"
14 Tu vystoupilo dvanáct apoštolů do popředí a Petr promluvil k zástupu: "Židé a vy všichni, kteří jste právě v Jeruzalémě ! Vysvětlím vám, co se zde děje, ale prosím vás o pozornost.
15 Určitě nejsme opilí, jak se nám někteří posmívají. Vždyť je teprve devět hodin, doba ranních modliteb.
16 Tady se však plní, co předpověděl prorok Joel:
17 'Bůh říká: V posledních dnech sešlu svého Ducha na lidi, vaši synové a dcery budou prorokovat, mladí budou mít vidění a staří významné sny.
18 Moji služebníci a služebnice dostanou mého Ducha a stanou se proroky.
19 Na obloze i na zemi se objeví zvláštní úkazy, krev, oheň a sloupy dýmu,
20 slunce se zatmí a měsíc zrudne. To bude znamením, že Pán přichází soudit všechny lidi.
21 Jenom ten, kdo ho uznává svým Pánem, bude zachráněn.'
24 Bůh však vyrval Ježíše z moci smrti, která ho nemohla udržet a vzkřísili ho z mrtvých.
25 To o něm zpívá David v žalmu : 'Pána mám neustále před očima stojí při mně, a tak nezakolísám.
26 Proto se mé srdce raduje, moje ústa zpívají, vždyť i pro mé mrtvé tělo zůstává naděje.
27 Ty mne nenecháš mezi mrtvými, nedopustíš, aby tělo tvého vyvoleného podlehlo zkáze.
28 Povedeš mne cestou života a dáš mi, abych se radoval u tebe.'
29 Je nám všem jasné, že dávný král David zemřel, byl pochován a jeho hrob je tady až do dnes.
30 Nemluvil tedy o sobě, ale prorokoval to o Mesiáši, který podle Božího slibu měl být Davidovým potomkem. A tak když říkal, že nezůstane mezi mrtvými a jeho tělo nepodlehne zkáze,
31 viděl vlastně dopředu Kristovo vzkříšení z mrtvých.
32 Ano, právě Ježíše Bůh vzkřísil a my všichni to můžeme dosvědčit.
33 Nyní je na nebesích po Boží pravici a má právo dávat svatého Ducha. Všechno to zvláštní, co vidíte a slyšíte, pochází od něho.
34-35 A zase David nemluvil o sobě, když napsal: 'Bůh řekl mému Pánu: Seď po mé pravici, až ti všecky nepřátele položím k nohám.'
36 Ať tedy ví každý Izraelec: Toho Ježíše, kterého jste ukřižovali, toho poslal Bůh jako Pána a Mesiáše!"
37 Petrova slova zasáhla mnoho posluchačů a ti se začali ptát apoštolů: "Bratři,co máme dělat?"
38 "Litujte svých hříchů," volal Petr, "vyznávejte je a na znamení Božího odpuštění přijměte křest, který Ježíš Kristu určil pro své následovníky. Také vy dostanete Ducha svatého.
39 Vždyť ten prorocký slib platí vám, vašim dětem, a dokonce lidem po celém světě, které si Pán Bůh zavolá."
40 A ještě jim říkal mnoho dalších věcí a radil jim naléhavě: "Nemějte už nic společného s těmi, kteří se postavili proti Mesiáši!"
41 Ti, kteří Petra poslechli, byli nakonec pokřtěni. Toho dne se připojilo k Ježíšovým následovníkům okolo tří tisíc lidí.

Petr a Jan šli jednou ve tři hodiny do chrámu, aby se zúčastnili pravidelných odpoledních modliteb.
2 Mezi četnými žebráky tam byl také muž chromý od narození, kterého jeho přátelé každý den přinesli a posadili u chrámových vrat, zvaných Krásná brána. Chodilo tudy hodně lidí a on je prosil o almužnu.
3 Tak požádal i Petra s Janem.
4 Zastavili se u něho a Petr mu řekl: "Podívej se na nás!"
5 Žebrák dychtivě zvedl oči, protože čekal dobrou almužnu.
6 Petr však pokračoval: "Peníze nemám, ale dám ti cennější dar. Ve jménu Ježíše Krista Nazaretského, vstaň a choď! "
7 Pak uchopil žebráka za napřaženou pravici, pozvedl ho a v tom okamžiku do ochrnutých nohou vstoupila síla.
8 Postavil se, zkusil chodit a za chvíli už mohl jít dovnitř chrámu spolu s apoštoly. Dokonce radostně poskakoval a hlasitě chválil Boha.
9-11 Lidé nevěřili svým očím, ale jasně poznávali, že dlouholetý mrzák, který žebrával u Krásné brány, teď chodí a z vděčnosti k Bohu prozpěvuje. Sbíhali se kolem uzdraveného i kolem apoštolů, kteří zatím došli do Šalomounova podloubí.
12 A tak k nim Petr začal mluvit: "Přátelé, proč se divíte? Snad si nemyslíte, že jsme toho člověka uzdravili vlastní mocí nebo mimořádnou zbožností?
13 Kdepak! To Bůh, kterého vyznáváte, Bůh našich praotců - Abrahama, Izáka a Jákoba - tu právě před vámi dokázal moc svého Syna Ježíše.
14 Toho Ježíše, kterého vy jste vydali Římanům a veřejně jste se ho zřekli před Pilátem, ačkoliv ho chtěl zprostit obžaloby. A když vám dal vybrat, koho má propustit, vy jste se zřekli svatého a spravedlivého muže a vyžádali jste milost pro vraha.
15 Toho, kdo vám chtěl dát věčný život, jste zabili! Ale Bůh ho vzkřísil z mrtvých a my to můžeme osobně dosvědčit.
16 Protože v něho věříme, dal nám sílu uzdravit tohoto muže, kterého znáte po léta jako bezmocného. To, že je teď zdráv, je výsledkem víry v Ježíše Krista.
17 Uvědomuji si však, bratři, že jste se Ježíše zřekli z nevědomosti a že ani vaši vůdcové netušili, o koho se jedná.
18 Bůh tak vlastně dopustil, aby Kristus trpěl, jak to už dávno předpověděl ústy svých proroků.
19 Přiznejte svou vinu na tomto hrozném činu a proste Boha, aby vám odpustil.
20 Pak se i vy budete moci těšit na dobu, kdy Bůh znovu pošle Ježíše jako vašeho osvoboditele.
21 Teď je v nebi a zůstane tam až do chvíle, kdy se Bůh rozhodne obnovit celý svět, jak to také předpovídali proroci.
22 Tak například Mojžíš přece řekl: 'Z vašeho národa jednou Bůh povolá nového proroka, podobně jako k vám poslal mne, ale toho budete skutečně poslouchat na slovo.
23 Kdo by se mu nepodřídil, nebude už náležet mezi Boží vyvolené.'
24 Samuel a všichni další proroci mluvili často o době, kterou my právě prožíváme.
25 Vy jste syny těch proroků a máte dědický podíl v úmluvě mezi Bohem a Abrahamem. Bůh přece Abrahamovi slíbil: 'Tvůj potomek bude požehnáním pro všechny národy země.'
26 Vám na prvním místě poslal Bůh svého Syna Ježíše, aby vám přinesl všecko dobré a odvrátil vás od vašich špatností."

Zatím co Petr a Jan mluvili, přivedli na ně kněží a saduceové velitele chrámové stráže.
2 Ten je zatkl, a protože byl už večer, vzal je do druhého dne do vazby. Kněze totiž popudilo, že Petr a Jan učili lidi v chrámě a hlásali, že Ježíš vstal z mrtvých.
3 Ale mnozí z posluchačů jim uvěřili, takže počet věřících už dosáhl asi pěti tisíc mužů.
4-6 ěžského rodu.
7 Dali si předvést Petra a Jana, Ježíšovy apoštoly a začali je vyslýchat. Chtěli vědět, jaká to je moc, kterou uzdravili chromého a kdo jim ji svěřil.
8 Na to Petr odpověděl z popudu svatého Ducha: "Vůdcové a představitelé národa!
9 Vyslýcháte nás pro dobrý skutek a chcete vědět jak to, že postižený mohl být uzdraven.
10 Prohlašujeme tedy jasně před vámi a před celým Izraelem, že jsme to udělali ve jménu Ježíše Krista Nazaretského, kterého jste vy ukřižovali, ale Bůh ho vzkřísil z mrtvých. Je to jeho moc, která postavila na nohy úplně chromého člověka.
11 Na Ježíše se vztahuje Izaiášovo proroctví: ,To je ten kámen, který jste vy, stavitelé, odložili, ale který se stal hlavním kamenem celé klenby.`
12 Jenom on je Spasitel a nečekejte, že se ozve ještě jiné jméno, které by znamenalo záchranu."
13 Členové velerady se podivili, jak odvážně a jasně Petr promluvil. Věděli totiž, že on i Jan jsou jen prostí, nevzdělaní lidé a byli překvapeni, jaký vliv na ně měl pobyt s Ježíšem.
14 Předvolali uzdraveného a ten teď stál vedle apoštolů jako živý doklad jejich slov. Nikdo z velerady nevěděl jak dál,
15 a tak dali zase apoštoly odvést a radili se, co s nimi.
16 "Nemůžeme zakrýt, že udělali nesporný zázrak," přiznávali. "Už to ví celý Jeruzalém.
17 Musíme však bránit tomu, aby se ty jejich zvěsti nešířily dál. Postrašíme je, aby už o Ježíšovi nikomu nevyprávěli."
18 Zavolali je zpátky a důrazně jim přikázali že už o Ježíšovi nesmí mluvit.
19 Petr s Janem odpověděli: "Myslíte, že je správné, abychom dali víc na vás, než na Boha?
20 Nemůžeme přece zamlčet, co jsme viděli a slyšeli."
21 Velerada jim ještě vyhrožovala, ale pak je propustila. Neodvažovali se apoštoly potrestat, protože se báli, že by se lid bouřil. Všichni totiž děkovali Bohu za tento zázrak.
22 Vždyť tomu uzdravenému člověku bylo už přes čtyřicet let.

12 Apoštolové se pravidelně scházeli v Šalomounově podloubí v chrámě,
13-14 kde se je nikdo neodvážil rušit. Stali se totiž mezi jeruzalémským lidem velmi populární pro divy a zázračná uzdravení, která se děla jejich prostřednictvím.
15 Došlo to tak daleko, že když měl jít Petr do chrámu nebo zpět, lidé podél cesty připravovali nemocné na rohožích a nosítkách, aby na ně padl alespoň Petrův stín.
16 Dokonce z širého okolí snášeli do Jeruzaléma nemocné a pomatené a všichni byli uzdraveni. A mnoho dalších mužů a žen uvěřilo Pánu a připojilo se k církvi.

26 Filip dostal pokyn od Božího anděla: "Připrav se a jdi na silnici z Jeruzaléma do Gázy, tam, kde prochází pouští."
27 Filip se hned vydal na cestu. Brzy uviděl průvod etiopského hodnostáře, ministra financí kandaky, jak se tehdy nazývala vládkyně Etiopie a Súdánu. Byl v Jeruzalémě, aby vzýval Boha
28 a teď jel zpátky a na voze si četl svitek proroka Izaiáše.
29 Boží Duch vnukl Filipovi: "Dohoň ten vůz!"
30 Filip přiběhl k vozu a tu slyší, že si černoch nahlas předčítá z knihy Izaiášových proroctví. Filip se zeptal: "Říká ti to něco?"
31 Ministr mu odpověděl: "Neříká, potřeboval bych to vyložit. Pojď si ke mně sednout a pomoz mi!"
32 Právě četl slova: "Byl veden jako ovce na porážku, a jako beránek ztichne, když mu stříhají vlnu, tak ani on neotevřel ústa.
33 Ponížili ho a nespravedlivě odsoudili. Kdo by čekal, že bude mít tolik potomků, když ho přece zabili!"
34 Dvořan se zeptal Filipa: "Prosím tě, to mluvil prorok o sobě nebo o někom jiném?"
35 A tak Filip navázal na to prorocké slovo a ukázal, jak se vyplnilo na Ježíšovi.
36 Cestou přijeli k nějaké vodě. Dvořan zvolal: "Podívej se, voda! Mohl bych i já být pokřtěn?"
37 Filip na to: "Jestliže jsi uvěřil celým srdcem, proč ne?" A on vyznal: "Věřím, že Ježíš Kristus je Boží Syn."
38 Etiopský ministr dal příkaz k zastavení, vstoupil s Filipem do vody a ten ho pokřtil.
39 Když se vrátili na břeh, Kristův Duch způsobil, že Filip ztratil dvořanovi z očí. Musel tedy pokračovat sám, ale měl velkou radost.
40 Filip se pak objevil v Azotu, prošel celým krajem až k Césareji a ve všech městech zvěstoval Ježíše.

Dicho esto, escupió en el suelo, hizo barro con la saliva y se lo untó en los ojos al ciego, diciéndole: —Ve y lávate en el estanque de Siloé (que significa: Enviado). El ciego fue y se lavó, y al volver ya veía. Sus vecinos y los que lo habían visto pedir limosna decían: «¿No es éste el que se sienta a mendigar?» Unos aseguraban: «Sí, es él.» Otros decían: «No es él, sino que se le parece.» Pero él insistía: «Soy yo.» —¿Cómo entonces se te han abierto los ojos? —le preguntaron. —Ese hombre que se llama Jesús hizo un poco de barro, me lo untó en los ojos y me dijo: "Ve y lávate en Siloé." Jesús resucita a Lázaro
Había un hombre enfermo llamado Lázaro, que era de Betania, el pueblo de María y Marta, sus hermanas. María era la misma que ungió con perfume al Señor, y le secó los pies con sus cabellos. Las dos hermanas mandaron a decirle a Jesús: «Señor, tu amigo querido está enfermo.» Cuando Jesús oyó esto, dijo: «Esta enfermedad no terminará en muerte, sino que es para la gloria de Dios, para que por ella el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado.» Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro. A pesar de eso, cuando oyó que Lázaro estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días más donde se encontraba. Después dijo a sus discípulos: —Volvamos a Judea. —Rabí —objetaron ellos—, hace muy poco los judíos intentaron apedrearte, ¿y todavía quieres volver allá? —¿Acaso el día no tiene doce horas? —respondió Jesús—. El que anda de día no tropieza, porque tiene la luz de este mundo. Pero el que anda de noche sí tropieza, porque no tiene luz. Dicho esto, añadió: —Nuestro amigo Lázaro duerme, pero voy a despertarlo. —Señor —respondieron sus discípulos—, si duerme, es que va a recuperarse. Jesús les hablaba de la muerte de Lázaro, pero sus discípulos pensaron que se refería al sueño natural. Por eso les dijo claramente: —Lázaro ha muerto, y por causa de ustedes me alegro de no haber estado allí, para que crean. Pero vamos a verlo.
Jesús consuela a las hermanas de Lázaro
A su llegada, Jesús se encontró con que Lázaro llevaba ya cuatro días en el sepulcro. Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalén, como a tres kilómetros de distancia, y muchos judíos habían ido a casa de Marta y de María, a darles el pésame por la muerte de su hermano. Cuando Marta supo que Jesús llegaba, fue a su encuentro; pero María se quedó en la casa. —Señor —le dijo Marta a Jesús—, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. Pero yo sé que aun ahora Dios te dará todo lo que le pidas. —Tu hermano resucitará —le dijo Jesús. —Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección, en el día final —respondió Marta. Entonces Jesús le dijo: —Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí vivirá, aunque muera; y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto? —Sí, Señor; yo creo que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que había de venir al mundo. Dicho esto, Marta regresó a la casa y, llamando a su hermana María, le dijo en privado: —El Maestro está aquí y te llama. Cuando María oyó esto, se levantó rápidamente y fue a su encuentro. Cuando María llegó adonde estaba Jesús y lo vio, se arrojó a sus pies y le dijo: —Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. Al ver llorar a María y a los judíos que la habían acompañado, Jesús se turbó y se conmovió profundamente. —¿Dónde lo han puesto? —preguntó. —Ven a verlo, Señor —le respondieron. Jesús lloró. —¡Miren cuánto lo quería! —dijeron los judíos. Pero algunos de ellos comentaban: —Éste, que le abrió los ojos al ciego, ¿no podría haber impedido que Lázaro muriera?
Conmovido una vez más, Jesús se acercó al sepulcro. Era una cueva cuya entrada estaba tapada con una piedra. —Quiten la piedra —ordenó Jesús. Marta, la hermana del difunto, objetó: —Señor, ya debe oler mal, pues lleva cuatro días allí. —¿No te dije que si crees verás la gloria de Dios? —le contestó Jesús. Entonces quitaron la piedra. Jesús, alzando la vista, dijo: —Padre, te doy gracias porque me has escuchado. Ya sabía yo que siempre me escuchas, pero lo dije por la gente que está aquí presente, para que crean que tú me enviaste. Dicho esto, gritó con todas sus fuerzas: —¡Lázaro, sal fuera! El muerto salió, con vendas en las manos y en los pies, y el rostro cubierto con un sudario. —Quítenle las vendas y dejen que se vaya —les dijo Jesús.
Cuando Jesús regresó, la multitud se alegró de verlo, pues todos estaban esperándolo. En esto llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era un jefe de la sinagoga. Arrojándose a los pies de Jesús, le suplicaba que fuera a su casa, porque su única hija, de unos doce años, se estaba muriendo. Jesús se puso en camino y las multitudes lo apretujaban. Había entre la gente una mujer que hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias, sin que nadie pudiera sanarla. Ella se le acercó por detrás y le tocó el borde del manto, y al instante cesó su hemorragia. —¿Quién me ha tocado? —preguntó Jesús. Como todos negaban haberlo tocado, Pedro le dijo: —Maestro, son multitudes las que te aprietan y te oprimen. —No, alguien me ha tocado —replicó Jesús—; yo sé que de mí ha salido poder. La mujer, al ver que no podía pasar inadvertida, se acercó temblando y se arrojó a sus pies. En presencia de toda la gente, contó por qué lo había tocado y cómo había sido sanada al instante. —Hija, tu fe te ha sanado —le dijo Jesús—. Vete en paz. Todavía estaba hablando Jesús, cuando alguien llegó de la casa de Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, para decirle: —Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro. Al oír esto, Jesús le dijo a Jairo: —No tengas miedo; cree nada más, y ella será sanada. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language?
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and proclaimed to them, "You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words. This is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
'It will come to pass in the last days,' God says,
'that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
your old men shall dream dreams.
Indeed, upon my servants and my handmaids

"Make yourself an ark, put compartments in it and cover it with pitch: the length shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty and its height thirty cubits. I am about to bring the flood waters, to destroy everywhere all creatures. But with you I will establish my covenant; you and your sons, your wife and your sons' wives. Of all other living creatures you shall bring two into the ark, one male and one female, that you may keep them alive. Moreover, you are to provide yourself with all the food that is to be eaten."
Then the LORD said to Noah: "Go into the ark. Seven days from now I will bring rain down for 40 days and nights and I will wipe out from the surface of the earth every moving creature that I have made."
With his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives, Noah went into the ark. Of the animals, two by two male and female entered the ark with Noah, just as the LORD had commanded. As soon as the seven days were over, the waters of the flood came.
For forty days and forty nights heavy rain poured down on the earth. All creatures on earth perished: only Noah and those with him in the ark were left.
God remembered Noah and all the animals with him. So God made a wind sweep over the earth and the waters began to subside. At the end of 150 days the waters had so diminished that the ark came to rest.
Noah opened the hatch in the ark, and he sent out a dove, to see if the waters had lessened. But the dove could find no place to alight and it returned. He waited 7 days and again sent the dove out... and this time it did not come back.
Then God said to Noah: "Go out of the ark. Bring out with you every living thing that is with you and let them abound on the earth, breeding and multiplying on it."
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and he offered holocausts.
God blessed Noah and said: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.
God said, "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants, never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood. This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come - I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the everlasting covenant that I have established."
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was with child through the holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, (Yahweh saves) because he will save his people from their sins."
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,"
which means "God is with us."

The women who had come from Galilee with him followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb and the way in which his body was laid in it, they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Then they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment.
But at daybreak on the first day of the week they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground.
They said to them, "Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day."
And they remembered his words.
Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others. The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, but their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them.
But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home amazed at what had happened.
