Tue 03 Dec 2024 | Asteroids@home | [error] Error reported by file upload server: can't open file ps_241124_input_47872_105_1_r92847170_0: No space left on device Ok, this might take a while then. I'm imagining the team running around like they're trying to rebootstrap a broken Factorio setup heh |

Still no response to ongoing upload issue Well despite sending the admin a message, posting this thread and even emailing the university to ask them to contact the tech team to sort it out uploads are still not happening... I have tried deleting them from my queue but they won't disappear... any ideas? If they won't take the upload then they're not just sitting on my PC for no reason ;) |

I can't believe how long it takes them to fix that - I mean don't they care at all? Maybe. This project's having problems, Rosetta's having problems (downloads of new tasks are stuck), LHC is having problems (lots and lots of failed batches of tasks that abort without getting any work, errors connecting to servers)... And nowadays there are only so few distributing projects alive, with respect to some years ago. God is dead. Marx is dead. And I don't feel so well myself. ;-) -- Bye, Lem |

There were two issues, a faulty network cable and insufficient free disk space. Unfortunately, I haven’t received any additional information from admins since Monday. Perhaps something else went wrong, I don't know... I’m unable to take any action as I don’t have access to the server.

I retired from 45+ years in IT. You can imagine the changes I've seen (even in the 10 years since retirement). First "mainframe" computer I programmed had 8k of 16 bit core memory, 3 approximately 128K hard drives, a single CPU ran at about 278kHz, 3.6µs memory cycle time. Over the years, one thing stayed the same: SH*T HAPPENS. You've heard of Murphy's Law? Well, when it comes to nearly all aspects of IT, Murphy was an optimist. When things come to a screeching halt, fixes may be obvious and quick, or not. Some fixes require unforeseen resources that may not be readily available. The point of this is that the people running these types of projects DO care, but may be working under restraints (physical, economic, managerial) not of their choosing. |
