Asteroids Homepage is working again now with ssl / https
but contacting the project via boinc I get this message:
Asteroids@home 19.09.2025 14:54:40 Scheduler request to http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc_cgi/cgi failed: SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK

Is this an issue on my side or is there something else at server side that needs to be updated?

Update:
OK, looks like its an issue on linux on my side. Windows boinc connection is possible and I get work

The server admin has to fix the secondary certificate issue on his side. Nothing can be done but wait it out.

You can download the interme. Certificate.

I found it on a server of the university of Münster (Germany)
https://www.uni-muenster.de/CA/de/cacerts.shtml

Debian:
1. go to /usr/share/ca-certificates
2. create a subfolder: ex. 3rd-party
3. download cert: wget https://www.uni-muenster.de/CA/harica-rsa-server-2025.crt
4. dpkg-reconfigure ca-certificates -> Choose Ask, set a mark on 3rd-party/harica-rsa-server-2025.crt and press OK

curl and boinc access are working again.

Edit: Orginal Cert: https://repo.harica.gr/rep_dyn.php

So it's more distro maintainer problem?

under opensuse downloaded harica-rsa-server-2025.pem
sudo trust anchor ~/Downloads/harica-rsa-server-2025.pem
systemctl restart boinc-client.service

and all ready to report tasks uploaded

Probably don't need to re-start BOINC but may take a retry or 2, did for me.

Hey all - new to this project and first time posting here (haven't used BOINC for a long time (20 years??)).

Anyways, recently got it on my Android and had no issues running this project for a few months... but now I have this exact issue since about a week or 2 ago. I have 88 completed tasks that cannot upload and no new tasks can download.

I see others mentioning Linux on a computer... I just have this on a lowly Pixel 7 Android phone. Any easy way to fix this or is it just a waiting game in my case? I have rebooted the app a few times to no avail.

Below is the most recent log (client messages), if that helps...

Not much you can do with anything Android without rooting the device(s), which is NOT recommended unless you know *exactly* what system & security issues you are going to get into.

The project Administrators/University IT (computer techs) need to fix the certificate problem on the project/University Servers.

Until they fix it just be patient and check *ALL THE FORUM TOPICS* as there's several similar topics opened about this exact issue.

There is a manual workaround posted by the user appu further down in the thread. I used it and can confirm it does work for Debian 12.

For Arch take a look at their wiki. It's an easy step.

Download the certificate and run
trust anchor --store downloaded.crt

TY, Is this affecting everybody, or what conditions causes it has that been determined? Windows 10
Do i need an updated ca-bundle.crt to put in BOINC directory? Much of farm running older BOINC version such as 8.16.20 i believe (Edit: 7.16.20) perhaps that is issue. Edit: I will update to latest BO INC version see if that resolves.
Edit: looks promising on 1 machine, uploading success.
Edit: latest https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/blob/master/curl/ca-bundle.crt will try next instead of installing latest BOINC

It may or may not be related, but yesterday various apps on my Windows 10 PC started complaining about outdated certificates. Rebooting the PC seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe Radim should do the same :).

After restart of the computer it worked.

Thank you

I'm having this problem on older Macs. But newer Macs are fine.
BOINC on those older Macs cannot connect to the Asteroids server, and even loading *this* website gives an SSL untrusted error in my browser.

Is this a problem that is getting fixed eventually? Or is the issue just that the issuer is "newer" than my OS?

I have a huge backlog of workunits right now, completed but unable to upload.

Event log: 'BOINC peer certificate cannot be authenticated'. This is after replacing ca-bundle.crt with the latest from Github so I would like to know, what from the infrastructure overhaul changed to cause this headache. They must have an idea. Looks like updating ca-bundle.crt is not enough, modern BOINC needed as well.
