I can see this issue is still there, I cannot attach to asteroid with boinc 8.2.11 on macOS (Intel CPU)

https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/ 04 juin 2026, 18:46:44 Scheduler list fetch from https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/ failed: transient HTTP error

I added a comment in the gibhub linked you last added, with little hope though.

[AF>Le_Pommier] Jerome_C2005 thanks for the feedback.

Are you attaching the project with https? https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc

Is the website accessible through a browser? BOINC 8.2.11 should use the same certificates, so if your system certificates are outdated, you shouldn't be able to access the website.

If only the BOINC client is affected, there has to be something different in how it’s operating. It might be related to some cached data, but the certificates were updated more than half a year ago.

Feel free to join us on boinc Discord or https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/6987#issuecomment-4586904087 We’d really appreciate your help in debugging this issue.

The last message by AenBleidd, 5 days ago, is for you :

@ahorek, last time I asked the user to check this, tis issue was found in the logs:

Sun 3 May 19:03:01 2026 | | [http] [ID#0] Info: TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS alert, unknown CA (560):
Sun 3 May 19:03:01 2026 | | [http] [ID#0] Info: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate

And this indicates that the certificate used by the server is unknown to Mac trusted certificates store.

This says the issue is apparently at asteroid side ? or I don't understand the comment ?

I tested a pre-version of boinc for macOS given by Charlie here but it's not working, I documented in the GH discussion.

Charlie provided another test version using curl 8.20.0 with Apple SecTrust, and it is working ! Asteroid is initialised on the mac and able to get tasks.

There is a regression on that version and no task of any project (CPU or GPU) is able to crunch ("waiting for swap space") but this is another issue, boinc team will look into it.

I assume the change for Apple SecTrust will be deployed in a future boinc version.

The certificate issue on macOS should be resolved in BOINC 8.2.15, which uses cURL with Apple SecTrust and correctly validates new certificates.

Thanks Jerome

I can confirm, that's it working on macOS 26 with the newest BOINC client 8.2.15.

Should I go back to the old version an try to debug the issue, or is it fixed?

BOINC was using /etc/ssl/cert.pem, which is outdated on Apple systems and no longer recognizes the certificate used by the Asteroids server. One way to fix this is to manually update that file.
Version 8.2.15 uses Apple’s native certificate store instead, which is more up to date and works out of the box.

Other projects may start having similar issues with < 8.2.15 versions once those projects update their certificates.

There's really nothing more to debug...

I have problems with the 8.2.15 on my late 2020 i9 iMac, I have an issue created and discussed on GitHub about it.

It's about the manager that gets disconnected from the client, but maybe others don't have that issues, so I suggest that you use this version as long as it's not causing you trouble.
