I just increased my resource share for Asteroids@Home and the Asteroids@Home preferences page worked but it gives the following error once for each set of preferences. I have default and work preferences so I got it twice.

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/boincadm/projects/boinc/html/project/project_specific_prefs.inc on line 206

I was able to change the preferences ok but I thought I should mention the error message.

I have recently had a lot of problems with my computer and proceeded, wrongly, to "ditch" a lot of work units. I believe that has led to my RAC going down but my User Total is still going up. Is there any way to resolve that or do I just need to wait it out?

What's happening might not be an error. I think probably that machine turned in a few successful results before you started having problems with it and those are only now being verified and the credits added to your total. Once all those results have been verified the total will no longer increase.

Verification at this project can take a little longer than at others because they send two copies of each task, one copy to you and the other to your wingman. If both results match then they know they have a reliable result. If they don't match then a third copy of the task is sent to another host to see if it's result will match with one of the first two. Sometimes it takes a while to get a match. This is not the only project to use that process for verification, many do.

Depending upon the nature of the investigation and the type of data analysis they are using, some projects use a different type of data analysis which does not require two matching results. They simply run a few checks on every returned result and if the data fall within certain limits or match certain criteria it's considered to be a valid result. Unfortunately many investigations cannot use that type of verification process.
