Hi all. My specs: Q9505 // Nvidia GTX550Ti 1024Mb // 4Gb RAM. Most wu's take aprox. 12k seconds and give 480 points; got 1 wu of 24k seconds, still waiting to see the score. @Dagorath: I also agree; equal wu --> equal score. The thing is IMHP: In A@H GPU takes too much time to complete a wu; nearly the same as a CPU. I've worked for other projects; the difference in time is really important (i.e. Primegrid and Einstein) in CPUvsGPU. This leads to get more points for using the GPU; not for the wu itself but for the fact that with GPU You can go really faster so You can finsih more wu's in the same time. So, admitting that a GPU uses more power than a CPU, that it takes same time to process, and it gives the same score... what's the point of using GPU? (and I'll use GPU for sure) Freeing the CPU to be used in other projects? Only ask what other people may think; not me. I'll work both with CPU and GPU here, but others may think it a lose of time and energy. C u all |

If you are contributing to multiple projects and some of them perform way better on GPUs compared to CPUs, you may want to keep your GPUs for those and CPUs for A@H. You may very well ask why are some projects even supporting CPU apps. |

I got much higher times on 560TI 384 cores then written down here. Does it need a free CPU Core? It ran at 99% Load, but i know this doesnt mean much ;) DSKAG Austria Research Team: http://www.research.dskag.at |

Greetings Glad to hear you are making good progress with the GPU app. As I have an AMD HD 5850, I will have to patiently wait till there is an OpenCL app available. What that will mean for me, is that I will be able to crunch Asteroids on GPU and crunch one of my other favourite CPU projects on the CPU. Until, happy crunching. Regards Tazzduke |

It ran at 99% Load, but i know this doesnt mean much ;) I have not tried mine here yet but I ALWAYS leave a cpu core free when using my gpu's, unless I see in the very low cpu % usage while the gpu is crunching. For instance my 7970, on another project, is using 0.84% cpu and I do have a cpu core free just to keep it fed and running as fast as possible. If I change it to use all cpu cores for crunching my gpu crunch times go up. |

@ Jan Vaclavik: you got the point. That's exactly what I meant. For a while I'll use both CPU and GPU (my little GTX550Ti). Obviously I'm hooked quite a bit to this project. Though there're others alsovery good. Still waiting to see the score of a 24k seconds GPU wu. Will have to be patinent. C U all |

Last modified: 3 Jan 2014, 9:39:28 UTC Our system doesn't report so. It does your BOINC client, our server only shows what your client reports. Look at the Event log what platform it reports, I think that this may be the problem that it reports something else than it should be. And please, use English here, it's very confusing for other people then, someone else can also help or the solution helps others. If you want to use Czech language, write at forum.czechnationalteam.cz in the section Asteroids@home. |

New updated CUDA version has been released. An improvement (18%) from (v100.00) ~9:40 to (v101.00) about 8h on my GT 635M! |

DistrRTGen was the one I was referring too, using 0.84% of a cpu core means I always leave a core free just to keep it fed. I am doing units in the 36 minute range on a 7970 that way. I JUST got my first Asteroid units and they are only using 0.01% of a cpu core with an Nvidia 560Ti card. On Einstein, also with a 560Ti Nvidia card, it is using 0.2% of a cpu core per unit, I am running 2 units at once though, so 0.4% total. |
