I consider myself and inventor of ideas. I have several ideas that would benefit man one of which is a system that would prevent fire in case of a plane crash... if several high pressure canisters similar to large oxygen tanks are placed in the leading edge of each wing under great pressure and filled with an anti-fire protein foam liquid plumbed into each fuel tank in a sealed loop... upon impact to any one of many sensors(similar to air bag sensors...I leave the details to the engineers) the bottles would discharge their contents into the fuel tanks (and subsequent fuel) thereby rendering the fuel on board non-flammable. Upon damage to the structure of the wing the fuel instead of hitting the hot engines of the aircraft and exploding thereby killing all on board that might have survived the crash simply results in a steamy smoky cloud instead of fire. Had this system been in use on the air-frames that hit the world trade centers and the pentagon think of how many people would be alive to0day and the possibility that the buildings would still be standing. I want no money for this idea but would like the recognition of its use !!! |

Last modified: 6 Feb 2014, 10:26:02 UTC I doubt you're the first one to think of that idea. There is probably a reason why it hasn't been implemented already and I would imagine the reason is that nobody wants recognition for implementing a system that has even the slightest chance of reporting a crash when there hasn't been one due to sensor malfunction and injecting foam into a perfectly good airplane's fuel over the Pacific. I consider myself and inventor of ideas. I am guessing your 'high pressure canisters' have mass and weight to them making it necessary to carry them around FOREVER in the event they are never needed, as is the case for most airplanes. I think you are trying to solve a problem for less then 1% of the total number of airplanes that fly, meaning it would have to be cost free for anyone to even consider your idea. And since fuel tanks are not just in the wings of airplanes, the 'canisters' would have to be everywhere, or piped everywhere, to solve the problem. All that means waaay too much weight to carry for a 'what if' scenario that the airlines are insured for anyway. It all comes down to money, save them money and everyone will buy into your idea, cost them money and your idea is dead on arrival. Perhaps a better idea would be to find a fuel additive that when combined with air, but outside the normal engine burning process, causes the fuel to do what you are thinking about, ie become inert. |
