I don't mind everyone not getting tasks. On the Cobblestone lists, I was getting fed up being overtaken by people with super-fast computers who have only been crunching for a couple of weeks and can complete a task in minutes instead of four hours like my laptop. At least us slower are holding position for an extra few hours now.

Bully of you, so glad your RAC is now on the up, so that being the case, perhaps you'd like to pay for the power bills of those less fortunate?

For the electricity use accommodating the endless failed downloads?

As for the 'cobblestone' lists, there are always going to be some folks with faster rigs or more rigs churning out data for whichever project they choose, maybe you just need to learn to live with the simple fact of life, ie:- there is always going to be someone faster out there somewhere:-)

I've been crunching data since the days of classic seti and it has always been obvious that there were going to be bigger/better/faster folks out and about.

What annoys me is those people with such slow rigs that they can only complete 1 task a week, but hide behind an anon account and somehow manage to get a cache of WU in the thousands, then those WU end up timing out, leaving their wingmen dangling while some server hands out the WU time and again to more and more clients..

Slow rigs are NOT a problem, people who finagle over large caches of WU are, if they cannot complete those WU before the expiry deadline.

And those folks with faster/bigger/better machines, are the ones who have managed to scrimp and save to be able to afford to pay for their kit.

BOINC is reporting failed d/l as completed tasks!!

Of course. Failed or not they are 'completed' in the sense they are 'Ready to report'

Thing is Boinc has NOT always logged those failed D/l's as completed, that has only happened over the last few hours.

Before it simply logged the d/l as failed with a reason for the failure, and when an update was carried out, it simply logged the next d/l attempt as it had all the others.

Now on update its logging as x number of completed WU.. IMHO a failed d/l due to zero length file or http error is hardly a completed WU, a completed WU should have an output file for the server to try to validate..

Even 'Aborted by user' at 0% (which of course do not have "an output file") and 'Error while computing' will show as 'Ready to report'
And during Update BOINC will show in log "Reporting X completed tasks"

If BOINC thinks that Download trouble is temporary then task will stay in 'Transfers' ready to 'Retry'
If BOINC give up on Download it will declare the task as Error and 'Ready to report'

Crunching with a pc is alot like buying, or even building a new pc, as soon as you walk out of the store, or finish building it, a newer model becomes available. The ONLY way to keep up is to not crunch and to me that isn't an option, so what I do is build more pc's. I can't compete in pure speed but since I do have some cash flow I can afford to build and keep running multiple pc's, so I tend to overwhelm with quantity not quality. Over time I have upgraded most of my pc's to 6 core AMD cpu's with decent gpu's in them, but it is a process and it takes time, and it didn't happen overnight!

BUT it takes EVERYONE to reach the goal, if my pc's run thru all the nothing in them units and your single pc finds the "eureka" unit, then the project wins and we are all better off for it. There is work to do and as long as we ALL help it is easier. My pc's are elsewhere until Kyong gets things back up and running smoothly again, no need for me to add more pressure to his time and troubles. But I will come back here, I am just achieving some goals elsewhere right now.

And apparently every single aborted or failed d/l is reported as in my cache:-(

This amounts to a considerable total, expecially since I've had 2 machine crashes due to hardware problems and win 8.1 and its UEFI boot habits..
Any ideas on a solution to the problem[s]?

Well even resetting the project doesn't work:-(
Now I have even more WU marked as 'in progress' dispite now only actually having 5 WU on my rig.
It would seem that the server is not accepting failed or lost tasks for either a resend

a mixture of errors is it worth running this program or just stopping it altogether

I don't mind everyone not getting tasks. On the Cobblestone lists, I was getting fed up being overtaken by people with super-fast computers who have only been crunching for a couple of weeks and can complete a task in minutes instead of four hours like my laptop. At least us slower are holding position for an extra few hours now.

I hate to break it to you, but not everybody has a laptop. Desktops are a lot faster than laptops by nature, and since a lot of people run BOINC on their gaming rig like me, there's some seriously suped-up crunchers out there.

So, at that moment, everything you see on the web pages may be 'back in time'
I don't know if this project have mirror/backup database - if the web pages are served by looking in mirror the info may be old when database is overloaded

AFAIK there is only the one server, no mirror..
In any event its just detail, and not that relevant all things considered. Is the actual tasks done and validated that count:-)

There are 3 Settings you need to adjust.
Those Settings are for all projects, not per project.

So you can adjust here or at any other project:
http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/prefs.php?subset=global

Disk
Use no more than X GB
Leave at least 0.YY GB free
Use no more than ZZ% of total

The most restrictive of the 3 'wins'


If you use Local preferences
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Local_preferences#Disk_and_memory_usage

The (same) web Settings are ignored if you use Local preferences:
"Settings override the same preferences set on the project's web page preferences"

Same here. Out of work and nothing but download errors for at least the last 10 hours.

Having issues with AstroPulse v. 7.04 as well, but this is another matter ;)

Please let me know if and when you are receiving jobs for the GPU's. I'm testing a version 2 of my Linux cruncher ;)

You know for a long time that there is no such thing as 'GPU jobs' and 'Linux jobs'
WUs are the same, tasks from the same WU are sent to any system/app:
