Hi!

One of the things that I love most about Asteroids@Home is that by contributing you can actually achieve some visible results. By visible results I mean that there's hope that the computing power I donate to A@H will actually calculate some parameters of an asteroid.

This page shows the results that the project has achieved so far:
http://asteroidsathome.net/scientific_results.html
Maybe one day I'll be on it :)

Anyway, I was thinking that it would be great if the users who gave enough computing power and had the luck to compute some params of an asteroid (the users who are on the list above) could get a special badge for each of the asteroids they compute, one that is different from the usual contribution badges which you automatically get if you give enough computing power. Maybe some different looking asteroid icon with a number 1 on it for one result, 2 for two, etc, or maybe one icon for each computed result ... :)

I took the initiative to design these special scientific result badges, so that in case you decide to implement this, you won't have to spend time creating the badges.

Here are the first 5 levels:

Members can theoretically compute any number of asteroids, but in practice so far most members have only managed to compute a few, so for now I've created the first 20 levels of the badge (out of which the first 5 are visible above), but if in time more will be required, it's easy to create the next levels and I will happily do it.

The full set of 20 badges can be downloaded from my site:

Happy crunching!

Forgot to mention that the badges I've created are the same format (PNG) and size (28*26 pixels) as the existing badges :)

Thanks!
So... will the special scientific results badges be implemented? :)
If there's anything else I can contribute (besides drawing the badges) to the process of implementing this, let me know, I'm happy to help.

A few more suggestions related to the scientific results page:

1. It would be great if the results were numbered, so that we can always easily determine how many results were obtained so far. In other words adding an index column to the front would be nice.
2. It would be nice if we could see the date when each result was computed (and perhaps not just the users who obtained the result, but also the computer who obtained the result).
3. On the user home page there could be an additional field listing the asteroids computed by that user (if the user has managed to compute any).

What do you think?

Thanks!

Any news about this, guys?

Are you considering implementing this at least in some distant future when you have time for it? Or do you think it's no so much a good idea?

Thanks!
