I got some download errors too, they increased over time within the last week or so. Today I got five new tasks of which all failed with error messages like these: 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | Finished download of input_2793_56 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | Finished download of input_4894_59 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | Started download of input_2656_2 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | [error] File input_2793_56 has wrong size: expected 54157, got 0 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for input_2793_56 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | [error] File input_4894_59 has wrong size: expected 61000, got 0 26.03.2015 21:56:01 | Asteroids@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for input_4894_59 26.03.2015 21:56:02 | Asteroids@home | Incomplete read of 39.000000 < 5KB for input_2656_2 - truncating 26.03.2015 21:56:02 | Asteroids@home | Finished download of input_2656_2 26.03.2015 21:56:02 | Asteroids@home | [error] File input_2656_2 has wrong size: expected 67337, got 0 26.03.2015 21:56:02 | Asteroids@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for input_2656_2 I refreshed in BOINC and A@H sent me five more WUs which all seem to be fine. They are being computed now, if something goes wrong I'll post again here. |

guys, are those times ok??? It looks like your pc is REALLY busy doing other things and is not exclusively running Boinc, so yes this is normal. |

Last modified: 28 Mar 2015, 17:02:30 UTC This is on Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N570 @ 1.66GHz so CPU time is probably OK http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=154098 On Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 v2 @ 3.00GHz this same task was done in 9,494 seconds (by avx app) http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/workunit.php?wuid=28460063 Speed (PassMark) 588 vs 17259 (for all Cores/Threads total) http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Atom+N570+%40+1.66GHz http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-2690+v2+%40+3.00GHz Atom: Single Thread Rating: 258 Xeon: Single Thread Rating: 1821 1821 / 258 = 7 (one Thread of this Xeon is 7 times faster than one Thread of this Atom for this Benchmark) 7 * 9494 = 66458 seconds (maybe) for this task when will be done on the Atom Since Asteroids@home apps do not have (obviously) the same code as the above Benchmarks this my estimation is only raw guess (and your Atom runs this task by SSE3 app but the Xeon did it by AVX app) P.S. Since "report deadline: Sun Apr 5" it is a puzzle for me why do you think that "the work should be done day ago" - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

Well the repeated download failed problem has returned. I've had several such failures in succession and it takes a great deal of updating to actually get 1 WU downloaded ok. 29/03/2015 05:49:56 | Asteroids@home | Reporting 1 completed tasks 29/03/2015 05:49:56 | Asteroids@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU 29/03/2015 05:49:58 | Asteroids@home | Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks 29/03/2015 05:50:00 | Asteroids@home | Started download of input_2919_22 29/03/2015 05:50:02 | Asteroids@home | Incomplete read of 39.000000 < 5KB for input_2919_22 - truncating 29/03/2015 05:50:02 | Asteroids@home | Finished download of input_2919_22 29/03/2015 05:50:02 | Asteroids@home | [error] File input_2919_22 has wrong size: expected 83338, got 0 29/03/2015 05:50:02 | Asteroids@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for input_2919_22 Guess the problem is back again:-( Regards, Cliff |

Hi, It may well be that the combination of using BOINC engine and some/all other applications are using all your RAM up. I discovered (with 32GB of RAM and an i7 running at 3.7GHZ on a 256GB SSD, that RAM usage crept up and up. Using (I'm in Win7 Ultimate) when checking with the free App: "Process Explorer" from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspxthat the RAM was almost entirely used up. Thus the CPU was spinning the gears, but getting little progress. Using "Process Explorer" I could see which Applications were using much RAM. I closed Process, and expected the RAM use to drop. I tried closing BOINC.exe, and although that closed, the CPU engines just kept going, and I could not stop them. All that was left was a restart of the PC. I have set the BOINC useage at 90% CPU and Graphics Card RAM usage also, and that may have a bearing on the system. The computer runs 24/7 ...So...what I do now is Reboot once per day. Now I have no troubles. Try it and see. Cheers :) |

I had there estimated time 2000 sec, after day it growed up to 20000 sec Usually BOINC, when you start on some new app/project, 'thinks' the opposite - estimated time is 10x more than real. In your case BOINC did it (estimation) wrong somehow the other way. As you can guess it is not possible Xeon 3.00GHz to do this same task in >9000 seconds by AVX app and your Atom 1.66GHz to manage to do it in 2000 seconds by SSE3 app Estimation should become better after you do some more tasks. - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |
