I read someone on here was in Norway using his machine for a similar goal.

Yup my basement hit the low 90's the other day, it's time to do something about it!!

I've only got 1 machine in my bedroom, but my 70-80 C range is starting to creep into the mid 80s and 90s. Looks like I'll have to adjust my overclock for the summer.

I put ThrottleStop profiles of 25W, 17W and 13W on the i5.

Went ahead and told the i7 client to use 22 to 44% of CPU time slices (depending on how much the fans started running) but to lower the GPU usage the only thing I could think of is MSI Afterburner and dragging the clock down to minimum.

How far down do either of you (under)clock and do you undervolt then?
Do you shut down certain machines, lower the wattage on all or just pay the electric company?

I do not under or over clock anything, I just let it run 24/7/365 at factory specs. Yes it gets very warm in my basement, it will hit the low 90's in the summer months, but I am only physically down there for a couple of hours per day so it's not a big deal. I am working on a air movement solution, but no final decisions yet. The local stores don't have the Summer time fans in stock yet either so I am on hold right now for that project. I too appreciate the cooler weather we are having right now!!

With the moderating temps my heat pump hasn't run for over a week now and I am able to use the windows to regulate the temps in my home. I have the basement door open so the hot air rises up out of it pretty well, not all of it of course but enough to keep the thermostat happy.

Well, I took some compressed air and blew out my computer. Everything's running at normal temps again. If it gets too hot during summer, I'll just go from my 4.30Ghz overclock back to the stock 3.5 clocks.

I have not done that in awhile, I probably need to too!!

That makes a huge difference. Just one puff of dust on a blow out was causing between 4 and 7 degree C temp rise on the Dell 6500. The fans don't seem to be running at much lower RPM's so maybe it's the insulating capability of dust on the heat pipes?
Clients never seem to believe me when I say how crucial it is to laptops to keep the fans clean and how much difference it makes in heat.
