Just to see Asteroids@Home working, I suspended my other 28 projects, which prompted BOINC Manager to download Asteroids@home WUs. But, a bunch of them failed. Below is the Event Log. What is going on?

There are more than enough entries on this topic already - why not read them instead of adding to the clutter.

Thank you, for spending a few precious seconds to type this insightful post to set me straight. Much appreciated. Learned my lesson.

Or, you could have just said "Known, being worked on, no ETA" with less time and effort... :)

You know, karma is a nice thing to invest in.

I strongly disagree. No specific task for this renewed problem has yet been established. All we do is to put it under the "News" thread.

But I do agree that this was a bit rude.

The problem is LIFE keeps getting in the way of the Admin figuring it out, every time he sits down to do something about the problem something else comes up. First it was that he switched jobs so he had to move his pc's to his new apartment, then he had to move them someplace else, then someone very close to him passed away, then the people he had asked to help him had no clue how to do it. He has said repeatedly the end is in site, hopefully, and as soon as he gets there he will put in the time to get the problems fixed.

What we have is a struggling project that feels it's better to live with some problems then to be shut down and potentially lose everyone. Some people are reporting a 90% error rate on downloads, that still means 10% of the work is getting done. IMHO 10% is better than none at all!

I understand that the admin is busy but IMHO most people will leave anyway because they won't want to babysit a project that only has a <10% chance of giving them viable tasks. They will simply go to other projects that aren't plagued by issues like this one is ATM.

I am sorry, but it is not clear to me what your post has to do with mine. I just stated that a) there is no specific thread with the actual download problem yet, and b) that JohnMD's comment was indeed rude somehow. How did you get logically from that to the actual basic problems of the project?

Or, you could have just said ...

No, his post tell the right thing to do - read first.
There are too many threads that discuss 'your' problem for a weeks now.

I just stated that
a) there is no specific thread with the actual download problem yet,

Don't you think this is very specific thread?:
"Download errors are back"
http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=263

and b) that JohnMD's comment was indeed rude somehow.

Not for me, I think it was too soft. Too many people post about 'their' problem and create additional posts/threads before reading what exists already

There are more than enough entries on this topic already - why not read them instead of adding to the clutter.

So I guess the easy answer is when you start your own Boinc project you can decide what is best and what isn't. The World is full of human beings each making their own choices, the Admin here is making his, you say yours would be different, that's okay that's your right as a human being, but not really relevant to Asteroids and its current problems.

I've watched your crunching for a long time and respect your opinion, but the Admin here is making his own path, there are way too many fish in the sea, ie other Boinc projects, to worry about them. Every week Seti goes down for a day or two, that's their choice as opposed to fixing the problems. The project at the beginning of everything Boinc SHUTS DOWN for two days a week!!! That would NEVER be my choice, but it is theirs!

The "pools" at BU go down periodically, the Admins could fix it, but they chose not to, that would NOT be my choice either, but it is what it is. We all crunch for other projects or we can start our own, me I just crunch as running a project can be VERY expensive!!

I am sorry, but it is not clear to me what your post has to do with mine. I just stated that a) there is no specific thread with the actual download problem yet, and b) that JohnMD's comment was indeed rude somehow. How did you get logically from that to the actual basic problems of the project?

It seemed like a convenient place to post doing a follow-up on what you said, sorry if it made you mad.

I have no clue what you mean here. I was merely giving MHO that most people were not likely to try and crunch here given the current issues. As for what other people actually choose to do, I really couldn't care less. I contribute what I can where I can, nothing more, nothing less.
