Just curious what the difference is between the 2. I can run sse2 on all 8 cores and keep temps at 60C. If I run 8 avs WUs, temps jump to 70+C. I know Kyong is too busy, but would be nice to make the avx WUs a different app so we could control how many run at a time. Or is there already some other way to limit avx to 4 active WUs?

So you prefer to run less effective app?? If you are afraid of overheating use: TThrottle Since you don't say which CPU of yours you talk about: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/hosts_user.php?userid=61328 ... find by yourself it's temperature limits. You also seem to say the core temperatures "jump to 70°C" but Intel defines TCASE Max: "Case Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS)." Some similar CPUs: http://ark.intel.com/products/65523/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz TCASE 67.4°C http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core%20i7-3770K.html - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

No These 2 <plan_classes> are to allow both users using older and newer BOINC versions on Mac OS to get tasks for sse3 app, read: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=255&postid=2555#2555 http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=255&postid=2586#2586 - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |
