Whoops! As suggested by AmigaForever on Message: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=501&postid=4910#4910

Guys,

a News thread is not the right place for reporting problems and bugs, moreover as there is a thread for the upload problem already existing:

http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=517

... entirely correct...
Sorry about that.

Cheers!

When will you make a new progress report?

I hope that they will release it soon because it would be nice to see the progress. :)

hey I'm new here and I'm really unsure of how to contribute or do work for this project.

Download BOINC and pick Asteroids at Home as your desired project.

I think that each year should be published a progress report. For example Rosetta@home is publishing each trimester one report for the user.
The last report of asteroids@home is from september 2015. Now, we are in january 2017. Since the last report you see Nothing on the web: Nothing in YouTube, Nothing in science magazine. It's looking like if they don't accessed to the wanted results.
But à lot of telescope discover regulary new asteroids and sometimes unex^pected crash situation.
At least: we have no visualisation of the operations so its a bit boring!

Research takes time, writing papers takes time, getting reviews takes time, getting publications accepted takes time.

Here is a arxiv paper submitted last year.

https://arxiv.org/abs/1601.02909

I assume that this is the arxiv version of the paper they mention in the 2015 update.

And in fact just poking around the internet I see that they did get it published

http://www.aanda.org/articles/aa/abs/2016/03/aa27573-15/aa27573-15.html

So yeah that's a success and should have been announced (although I assume they are mostly still the same discoveries mentioned in the 2015 update).

Looking at papers that cite their's

I see some of the authors have collaborated with others which is great, (some papers mention Asteroids@home, some don't)
http://www.aanda.org/component/citedby/?task=crossref&doi=10.1051/0004-6361/201527573

Maybe I am cutting these guys too much slack but I feel comparing these guys to Rosetta@home might be a bit unfair. I am assuming that Rosetta have a much larger team working on that project, whereas it seems Asteroids@home is a team of four from a few different institutions.

The example of this can be shown in "Cosmology@Home" individual and team points status updated on a daily basis.

Cosmology@home had a LONG period where there was no contact by the head architect of the project and no updates to the apps.

At least Kyong is still visible and not gone incognito.

And, hey, at least there are some cool asteroid badges. ;)

Well, learn to program and you can create a visualization component for it. ;)

I don't that anybody in the community ever created a screensaver for BOINC, but it's been done for the core clients... so you, PFLIEGER, could be the first!

(And a # of projects DON'T have visualizations. Be nice if they did, but that takes a lot of time. Remember, these folks aren't JUST doing these projects. Many have professional commitments outside of the project too.)

The unfair way is to work for several project. And i recognise them.
But sometimes the server is out of service for one day. And our computer is then working this time for other project until the server is running again.
Working the main time for a better knoledges of the asteroids is good.
If you look what happenned in Russia with the asteroids falling who broke the whole Windows of a city and occured troubles in the city, then it is sure to increse the knoledge of the asteroids to prevent in the future such issues.
Why i choiced rosetta or poem @home as second project?
My parents had Alzheimer disease and helping the knoledge in médicine is a second way to cure in the future the own family if they could be attacked by a actually uncurable disease.

Hi,

There is no such thing for Asteroids nor Milkyway - just about the only one that has a visual is SETI.

Regards

World Community Grid also has visuals though they're not very interesting.

As far as I can tell, Asteroids@Home only computes the shape of the asteroids, not their trajectory. Close approach data would be much more useful to prevent disasters such as you mention. Granted, any data of an earth-crossing asteroid including its shape would be useful, however if we discover one to be on a collision course with earth and we don't already have it's 3D model computed I'm pretty sure that particular asteroid would be the highest priority and that data would be ready within minutes! So, apart from increasing scientific knowledge, is the Asteroids@Home data really giving us any advance protection from any possible existential risks?
