Last modified: 25 Sep 2017, 13:27:56 UTC Got my AMD Threadripper 1950X and let go asteroids. But i dont get any avx-wu. Thought the server should give each app a try? I do not want to write an app_info, cause i dont know how to get cpu and gpu wu's in paralell My old 4930K got avx from first minute |

You can probably check your server logs for hostid=116 to find what BOINC reported http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=116 The CPU for sure have AVX http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen%20Threadripper%201950X.html - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

What does BOINC log say about detecting instructions for that processor? I don't have access to that AMD processor to check it. 31.10.2017 21:03:08 | | Processor: 32 AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16-Core Processor [Family 23 Model 1 Stepping 1] 31.10.2017 21:03:08 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 htt pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt aes f16c rdrandsyscall nx lm avx avx2 svm sse4a osvw skinit wdt tce topx page1gb rdtscp fsgsbase bmi1 smep 31.10.2017 21:03:08 | | OS: Microsoft Windows 10: Professional x64 Edition, (10.00.16299.00) 31.10.2017 21:03:08 | | Memory: 47.90 GB physical, 54.90 GB virtual 31.10.2017 21:03:08 | | Disk: 952.92 GB total, 686.49 GB free |

From what I have read about AMD's Threadripper, the AVX instruction set is not supported. PrimeGrid and World Community Grid both have threads discussing the Threadripper CPU. I believe the PrimeGrid thread states that due to the lack of AVX instruction set support or compatability, the Threadripper CPU may not work as well on PrimeGrid's tasks compared to Intel AVX CPU's.

According to this page you run a TR since june 2012 (!) and it got hundreds of sse2, sse3 and avx tasks: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/host_app_versions.php?hostid=116 This can't be true, can it? I suggest to detach and reattach the TR to get a fresh computer ID. Nonetheless avx is not necessarily faster than sse(x) as an optimised app also needs to be aligned to the CPU's cache layout etc. |

The OP probably is running a machine which has had the HDD moved to newer hardware without an operating system reinstall. This is quite common when upgrading Linux based machines. |
