So for anybody following this, the tasks in progress seems to have steadily dropped. It is now at 127213. Im starting to wonder if they just release a ton of tasks at once, people fill up their caches, then they run dry for a while?

Yes, that's how it goes.

Your attitude and suggestion does not help anyone. Remember this is an all volunteer operation. The project has recently had system work I believe. If his mail box is missing it will come back.

As for the "Rookie" statement there are a lot of available IP addresses and you are free to create and run your own project to demonstrate your own skills.

Thank you

I hope they are from the "New Server" :)

Somebody must be uploading WUs. My rank on FreeDC keeps declining.

In your BOINC computing preferences, how many days work do you have it set for saving? [Store at least ____ days of work.]

Always best to grab a few days worth of work.
The 800000 plus WUs on the server went pretty quick, and there are still 345000 in progress. I'm not sure why the work generator can't get units in quicker, but it seems like when the 100000 or so mark is hit we end up with more work.
I wouldn't say get 10 days of work with 10 days of cache; clearly people are doing that - but keeping at least 2 days of work with perhaps a 1 day or 2 of cached work wouldn't hurt. E.g. store up to 2 days with an additional 1 or 2 days. That way you're not overwelming the server and the projects, if yoou have any, set at 0% can work just a little, maybe 1 or two days. When you set a poject to 0% the project will only keep enough work on your machine to keep the cores active and won't keep any waiting in the cue.
I usually have Rosetta as a backup with 0% resource usage. Really nice balance, it seems - but it all depends where your interests are. For me, the number projects do nothing so Asteroids, milkyway, WCG, Rosetta, or even Seti (despite the tons and tons of folks with ridiculous amounts of gpu power there that make me feel vastly outclassed with mostly cpus here...)

I am not quite sure what some individuals are trying to prove, but I see where some computers have over a hundred (even over 300) tasks in progress on individual computers. Eventually, many of these seem to get the "Not started by deadline - canceled" message, and someone else picks up the slack. This does nothing for those of us waiting for the "Competed and validated" notation.

Seems the algorithm for deciding limits per computer doesn't exist. All one has to do is set 'Computing Preferences' for a large number of days to get assigned a huge quantity of tasks and maybe have work if the host is down again for failures as has been the recent case. In any case, only the Administrator and staff can solve this. Anyone else care to comment on this?

Basically , it's a great project, as regards its goals. It's the admins who are total fuckups who never respond to the people doing their work for them. They are arrogant, unresponsive, total dickheads, and should have this very important project taken off them and given to a new team that respects the people who donate hardware, software, computing time, electric costs, etc, etc, etc. The diaper police who run this scheme will now ban me again(2nd time) because instead of actually fixing the fucking ONGOING problem, or asking anyone to help(donations, hardware, software, advice)respond by ...not responding...or banning boincers for sharing a reasonable opinion about their useless attempts at running a worthwhile project. But, hey, why let the science get in the way when you can just shaft users who have an opinion about your inability to run the project for the very users who do the work for you... bye all. There are other more worthwhile projects on the boinc network than this shit fest run by a bunch of unresponsive dumbnutts. BYE.

Dear @darkstarz1,
I would prefer not to think that it is the project and its team that makes you so frustrated. So I can only guess who or what could actually do that to you. We all have suffered one way or another because of the COVID-19 and everything that happened for the past year and so. There are people who lost their beloved or their friends or their colleagues or just someone who they knew. I just hope that is not the case here. For more than a year the situation around the world could be described pretty well with that movie title "The Day Earth Stood Still" - nothing goes in the ordinary way any more, most of the people can't do their regular jobs as before and so on and so on. I know that all these factors successfully provoked anxiety, anger, impatience or pure craziness inside many of us but You know, it is up to us to let those to take over our mind. It is not an easy task. But still there is always someone or something who/that relies on our support and to whom we bring hope. I'm not going to say more here. I don't know what makes you so angry and why you lost your temper in your post but I'm sure you can do better.
Take care!

The situation of the project is really frustrating.
I finally got some work but it seems most of my wingmen are people who grab work for 20 days and are not able to crunch it.
So many of the WUs are aborted by the server. Some before calculation, maybe some later after calculating.

Is it so much work to implement a limit of WUs per host that it cannot be done because of COVID-19 ? Then I better switch to projects against COVID-19.

Can systems that have large numbers of "timed out tasks" on a repetitive basis be restricted to receiving fewer tasks ?

I understand that systems that return high numbers of failed tasks can be restricted.

Are these restrictions "Manual" in implementation ?

Thanks

I did not get a reply to the above ? What is the process to restrict users who down load more work than they can do on a repetitive basis ?

Thanks
