Hi
I have just started with BOINC and Asteroids@home.

My question: Why do the program start 8 projekts at the same time? why not do 1 super fast?
I canĀ“t find a option to chance it.

Hi and welcome,

What CPU do you have?
- I guess 8core from AMD, or 4core with HT from INTEL, Am I right?

8 tasks starts, cause no matter how many cores do you have, one task use just one core. After 2-3hours of crunching, youll get 8 results, so from global perspective, thats the same, if youll finish one task in 1/8th of that 2-3h time.

This is how multicore systems works, and its ok :)

Some projects (not many, and not this one) use multithreaded (mt) applications to use every core for just one work unit.

Anyway, it looks like you'll be able to get through a lot of work your computer running 8 in parallel so I wouldn't worry!

Cheers,

Al.

Nice Monster! :)

- i wish more users like you in this project..

Btw, what do you crunch on that 680?
- gpugrid or Einstein@home would be good choice i think.

Its not healthy sleep near a running PC, but if you have a chance to move it somewhere - living room/kitchen, theres no reason why dont do it asap :)

Btw - if you run crunch over night, you help with stabilizing of electric grid in your country :)

Was missing You Dagorath... expecting one of your answers and finally got it.

rogerolausson: I once had the same problem with my wife. She used to say: " I don't want the computer to burn because it's on all day long..."
Don't worry it's a fight You'll probably loose.
Day after day, you'll win this war. But requires time, believe me.

I won a time ago, but now my electricity bills are growing and my wife says: "maybe having the computer on wastes too much". Nooooo, is my answer; the computer wastes little electricity... Let's see how this ends.

7h20m is regular time -- youll receive cca 135 000 points for that task.

If youll try crunch Einstein@home on GTX680, ill recommend do 2 or 3 tasks at the same time - dont hesitate to contact Me directly via peeticek@gmail.com

Br and good luck with your wife :]

Someone hasn't finished them yet. Some of the tasks weren't finished in time so they have to be processed again.
