From my earlier post: http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=62&postid=610#610 On my computer (AMD Athlon II X3 455 Processor 3.3GHz, Win XP): During this start/restart time (start/restart of tasks) no 'Progress' is made. This may have big impact on Run time for people that use: Suspend work while computer is in use Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above (and similar) and also if BOINC often switches tasks to run another in 'High Priority' @Kyong: What is computed during this start/restart time? (some table?) Can the result (table) of this 'task startup' computing be saved on disk? (I imagine: - if this is task independent - save it to project directory (to be loaded and used for next tasks (of the same 'batch'?)) - if this is task dependent (different table for every task) - save it to 'slots' (in the 'checkpoint' file or in separate file) ) If this is checkpoint dependent (different table computed from/for every checkpoint) - probably save is not possible? - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

There are some precalculations but it can be fixed so that it can start compute from checkpoint sooner. But it's a little problematic to do the changes now because of more platforms so that the changes have to be made sepparately on those source codes and then test every platform.

If you ever decide to make changes to the apps I would like also more info in stderr.txt http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/result.php?resultid=940551 E.g. 'Restarting at XX%', 'Staring calculation of ...', 'Calculation of ... finished' and something (short info) about the results from the task. - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |
