Nothing new at this project. Currently server status page shows no tasks available to send out, 123818 tasks out in the field being worked on. Most likely there will be no new tasks generated to send out until that number gets a lot closer to zero. http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/server_status.php ![]() ![]() |

I started with Asteroids@home 3 days ago, got tasks the first day, then nothing anymore. I have run out of jobs to do and the stat for the last days shows a flat horizontal line. No notices or anything. What's up? Prior experience indicates that this project is very unstable, subject to ups, downs and "errors while computing." Maybe it is due to under-funding, outdated equipment or overwork by the project manager. I don't know, but it is frustrating. Steve Gaber Oldsmar, FL |

You can choose a primary task (asteroids) and a secondary task (rosetta, for example). When you notice that asteroids is down, start rosetta. When asteroids returns online say "no new tasks" to rosetta and run the two in parallel until your rosetta que is empty. This has saved me from frustration. Markus |

This kind of behavior is normal for this project. I would not go so far as to call it unstable as others might, it just wont have tasks every single day. Sometimes there might be several days without tasks, but after a few days it will start back up again. You can run other projects along side this one in BOINC, if you want to have very consistent tasks 24 hours a day. If you want to run this project as much as possible when work for it is available, just increase its weight so that it is much higher than other projects. This will mean that BOINC will spend almost all of its time on this one when it has work available, but if it doesnt then it will work on other tasks.

But that doesn't engender a long term commitment to this Project does it? I would love to be able to crunch workunits from here day in and day out for the next year or more but just can't because they don't make enough. Yes I do exactly what you said but that's also the reason my stats here are as low as they are. ![]() |

I'm running two other projects besides Asteroids -- SETI@Home and Rosetta., simultaneously. I get Asteroids tasks in dribs and drabs. My machine crunches them, sends them back and I may not get any more for a week or so. But my RAC is falling steadily and I'm losing ground in my FreeDC stats. Guess it's just natural for this project. But if nobody else is getting any work, why are my country and project stats falling? |

But if nobody else is getting any work, why are my country and project stats falling? Most likely there are plenty of users running tasks solely from this project. Or users may have set large cache, for example "store at least 7 days of work". If running that kind of settings it won't matter if the server is out of work for a couple of days. Their computers will have tasks in queue all the time and can continue crunching 24/7 |
