What happens to the work units that have been sitting waiting to upload but are days past their original due date?

I had over 100 work units that were a couple days past due and timed out. It seems like the due date was re-set when they uploaded so I am getting credit for them as if they were submitted on time. I am glad I didn't panic and abort them or anything.

I am very sorry for this, I just really didn't have much time to check the forum. I was checking it now and noticed the problem. When I fixed the previous problems I was testing everything except uploading which I really didn't think to be a problem. BOINC server just didn't create a new log which should be done automatically due to which it was unable to upload finished work. I just created it and I can see in the log file that upload is running. I hope this was the last problem. There just might be some short timeouts now because network has very high load now but when all work will be uploaded it should be good.

Kyong:

The project was down, tasks were getting timed out, you were not responding. Malwarebytes and possibly other security utilities were blocking access, reporting that the project had a Trojan. Thousands of work units and uncounted hours of computer time were being wasted. Some people became very angry and quit the project. I and others were worried about your well-being.

So I took it upon myself to send an email to your university department informing that the project had some trouble and asking them to investigate the nature of the problems. I asked if you were not well or were just overworked.

My intent was not to get you in any trouble, but to provoke a response when no response was forthcoming. And maybe to stop the project from losing so many volunteers out of frustration. People also began wondering if you were sick.

Just wanted you to know that I did this in hopes of resolving on-going problems. I thought it might help to get you additional resources to make the project more stable in the face of recurring outages, equipment failures and security issues.

I realize that you are only one guy running this whole thing. But the project seems to be teetering on the brink of failure. Unless you want to continue alienating participants, losing their hard-earned data, and causing them to abandon Asteroids@Home in anger, you should really be more responsive.

You said you "didn't have much time to check the forum." This indicates that you need more help. The forum is your front line. It's your troops, your work force and should be checked daily. You should not have to carry the entire load yourself. Get more people. You also need more and better equipment.

Perhaps you already know all this. And perhaps my actions make you angry. But I did it for the good of the project.

Sincerely,
Steven Gaber
