Current GPU Uses Group team founder abandonment prevents joining by current members. Would you please enable the standard server software mechanism for dealing with Team abandonment and the ability to set new Team Founders. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Current GPU Uses Group team founder abandonment prevents joining by current members. Hi Keith Myers, I will check this issue and will get back to you. Thanks, Georgi “The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson |

Hi Georgi, Thanks I would appreciate that. I'd like to take over Founder status of my Team since the existing Founder is no longer crunching for several years. I am the Team Founder on almost all projects the team members are crunching. I've had to use the Founder change mechanism on several projects now. Also I still would like the team management function for appointing co-captains or co-admins to be enabled too. I appoint another member or two to co-admin to cover the situation we find ourselves in here with no current crunching member with admin functions. That prevents the team abandonment problem for the most part. Some admins, like GPUGrid just made me Founder after I asked for the same feature to be enabled and they just found it easier to do that instead of hunting down where that feature was in the server software. My team is the GPU Users Group and we normally have a closed team only open to current team members or for new members that have been voted in under polling. The last Founder left the Team in the closed state as usual preventing any new members or current members from joining. This is our Team https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/team_display.php?teamid=1832 You can see that there are no active members in several years. But with the project back several current members are now crunching Period_Search gpu tasks. Great that the project now allows the Ampere and Ada gpus to contribute. I am deploying my hosts at the project and several other members are doing the same. Our GPU Users Group is a high performing team at many projects and occupies the top spots at most projects we crunch for. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Hi Keith Myers, From what I can see the functionality of changing the team ownership is there and it is working: https://prnt.sc/sL-TMXhNrQai Have you used that link Initiate request? As you can see from the Boinc's Wiki, under the paragraph Team foundership transfer there are a few criteria this to be active: In the event that the team founder becomes inactive or unavailable, it is possible to request team foundership to be transfered to another member. To do that the member who wants to be the new founder has to select an option Initiate transfer in the team's page. If another user hasn't requested the transfer within last 3 months, an option to request the transfer will be presented. Otherwise a date of the previous request will be shown. “The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson |

I think the issue is that we're not on the team on Asteroids. but we can't get on the team to intiate the request because it's a closed group and all the existing members are not around anymore. Yes neither of you guys are on the Team now and when I go to my Team page I see that option listed |

Which goes back to my original post that when this happened before at other projects like at GPUGrid, the admins there just set me as Founder and then I could open the Team up for the current crunching members to Join. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Hi Kaith, We've unlocked the GPU Users Group team for accepting new members. You may join it now, and then start the procedure of taking ownership by using the Initiate request link. You'll have to wait the the two months period if by any chance current team founder decide to show up and act. Decisions made by administrators from other projects are their business and responsibility. In this project, we cannot and we will never change an ownership just like that under any circumstances. That's what the rules are for, after all. Cheers, Georgi “The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson |

OK, Georgi, thanks for unlocking the Team for us. I understand you run your project your way. I've initiated the foundership request and will wait the 60 days. I've had to do that on several projects now and know the procedure. The current founder last was using BOINC over at Rosetta a year ago and was his most recent activity anywhere and I sent a PM to him there in hope of attracting his attention but I have not had any response there. Haven't had any PM response from him here either. So assume he has stopped BOINC entirely. So thanks for understanding the situation we find ourselves.
