Still not working.

Any chance of resetting this computer on the server so the server tries AVX on it. It's never seen a single AVX task to find how fast it is. (Ignore the slow GFLOPS, that's temporary, I was overloading the RAM with LHC tasks for a short while - that's not what caused it never to get AVX, I only did that recently).

AVX is 1.65 times faster on that type of CPU, which can be seen on this similar one:

I've got 5, up to Cobalt. But they're not shown on the left in here :-(
Just out of a curiosity what do you mean?
See here, under my photo there's a badge.

Hovering over the badge tells you what it is.

Hi,
Is there any change since 1st of December?

Thanks
No, still just getting sse3. It got tasks this morning, 7 Dec 07:47 GMT.

It's now completed 2004 sse3 tasks, and never been given anything else to try.

Offending host's application details:

Offending host:
https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=724479

Very similar host always gets avx after initially trying a few sse3:
https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/host_app_versions.php?hostid=724474
Note the difference in GFlops between the two apps, I want that for the other one :-)

It is good when you can keep everything under control from your mobile device too, right.
Gotta love being able to say "hey google" to prove someone you're arguing with is wrong :-)

I remember from 2021 and earlier, the project would run out of work units fairly frequently, because you weren't able to get new units fast enough before the current set of units were complete... and also, it was partly caused by people hoarding large numbers of them at a time. Do you expect the same pattern going forward? (I'm not complaining, I just want to know what to expect so I can set up my BOINC machine accordingly.)
It's possible to set the server to limit how many tasks each host can download, but that may not be a good idea since if a host can't get what it's asking for it will download from another project. Depends if they want the tasks back quickly or not.

Looks good at the moment with

Tasks ready to send 510036
Tasks in progress 198176

The data at FreeDC is correct taken from the same stats.xml data file so only BoincStats is screwing up.
Ah. Where's Willy when you need him?

Although I don't understand why Boinctasks only gets one project wrong (mind you my Primegrid stats were doing the same crazy stuff).

Looking at this page:
https://www.boincstats.com/stats/134/user/list/16/0/0
it should show the top 100 users by RAC in this project. They're all zero. Yet going to the >>100 link, the next page is ok.

Is this a problem with Asteroids or Boincstats?

It's still doing it. 1262 tasks completed in sse3, no avx ever even attempted. I'm missing out on a 34% speed increase.

You can't blame BOINC for your problem at Einstein.
Yes I can, Vitalii Koshura (the only programmer in Boinc I believe) said it's a bug that's only been fixed in Windows, not Android.

They use their own proprietary server software that is years old compared to the current BOINC master branch code.
Irrelevant when my own client (in the case of Primegrid) is predicting 150 days for the task to complete, then goes and downloads 50 more to fill my 1 day queue! 150 times 50 is not equal to 1!

But there are still a couple of active developers still working out and merging bug fixes in the master branch code.

One important one was the overfetch bug when max_concurrent statemements were in play. That finally qot squashed after 10 years.
They haven't fixed that in Android. My phone can only do 4 of 8 cores on Einstein at once or it runs out of RAM and crashes every task in minutes (despite Boinc should be stopping that itself). When it couldn't get any Asteroids work, the backup project of Einstein went mad, it downloaded 2 months of work when I'd asked for a day.

It's also not fixed properly (similar effect, another bug presumably). If you've ever run Primegrid, Boinc has absolutely no idea how long tasks will take. It always thinks they will take 50 times longer than they do. Yet somehow this makes it download more (should be less surely?!?) than asked. So it's correcting itself the wrong way!

Only Windows users seem to get updated client installations because the devs only have CI builds for Windows running. Linux users have to fend for themselves.
Not sure why anyone uses that non-user-friendly OS.

Another Boinc thing.
You missed out the phrases "cobbled together" and "badly designed". I spend more time making Boinc behave than maintaining my 10 computers. The other day I had a computer download 150 days of work instead of 1. Apparently because "it hadn't learned how long the tasks took yet", even though it was actually overestimating the time, not under.

I am excited Asteroids@home is back, but I am only limited to CPU tasks since another project will retire a GPU app in the next few weeks.
Einstein and Milkyway are the only ones I know of in astrophysics for GPU. But they have loads of tasks.

By the way, if you edit your post to two spaces and nothing else, it will vanish. Weird way to do things, but it seems to work on all project forums.

Strange. Everybody is complaining when there are no WUs available, which is understandable. But it looks like nobody is happy when they're back. Or it's like having a conversation with mouth full :)?
I'm just saying.
We were happy, until they ran out! Now they're back again, we're very happy.

And also you fixed the email notifications :-)

You do know that they are using 'credit new' now and are set on that at least for the short term...right? 'Credit New' is pushed by the Boinc Developers and other senior level tech people and they seem to be the people the Project is listening too right now.
AFAIK any project using credit new is banned by Gridcoin.
