Posted 26 May 2018 by james Post: I reason I joined the Asteroids at Home Project is that I would like to support the goal of mapping all the objects in the solar system, especially those that intersect the orbit of Earth. What is the function of a team in the distributed computing environment? In general, a team is a group of individuals that work towards achieving a goal. I was invited to a team, but the reply asking about teams went unanswered. This caused me to think about teams. This endeavor produced three categories: advantages, disadvantages, and duties. Since this is a distributed computing environment, the individual's computer is automatically a member of the team consisting of all the computers that are contributing to the project by completing work units. The advantage to the project is when the computer completes a work unit. The advantage to the individual is the ability to join or quit without inconveniencing others. The advantage to the computer is a consistent operating temperature. The disadvantage is to the individual who pays for the resources used. The duty is to complete all the work units assigned. Personally, I see no reason to join a team since the computer is the main participant. I can see a psychological advantage for the individual, but there should be some additional reasons of which I am currently not aware. Please comment if you have any additional information about team membership that may cause me to change my opinion. |
