This kind of behavior is normal for this project. I would not go so far as to call it unstable as others might, it just wont have tasks every single day. Sometimes there might be several days without tasks, but after a few days it will start back up again. You can run other projects along side this one in BOINC, if you want to have very consistent tasks 24 hours a day. If you want to run this project as much as possible when work for it is available, just increase its weight so that it is much higher than other projects. This will mean that BOINC will spend almost all of its time on this one when it has work available, but if it doesnt then it will work on other tasks.

But that doesn't engender a long term commitment to this Project does it? I would love to be able to crunch workunits from here day in and day out for the next year or more but just can't because they don't make enough. Yes I do exactly what you said but that's also the reason my stats here are as low as they are.

I seem to be paired up with ALOT of hosts that have too much work and it's always timing out so gets sent to another host et, etc. Is there a mechanism here to limit workunits to those computers that have alot of workunits that have problems?

If so that probably is't your problem.

Had seen this too at my account.

It just happened again, valid w/u`s rose to 5304, but just dropped again to 5302. how strange!

As the units get moved offline the numbers will drop, there's no way they can keep all those units online for EVERYONE to see and still keep the project alive, the database size and costs to maintain it would be HUGE.

There is going to be a big maintenance on 11.09.2017. It will take nearly 5 - 7 days. Servers won't be processing any work during maintanenace and most of the time might be offline.

Is that November 9th or September 11th? Depends on whether you are American or European on how you read the numbers.

I'm going to buy a Asus ZenFone Zoom (Intel Atom CPU) and I'd like to have a version of this project also for this type of devices. A lot of Asus ones have a Intel processor (with a x86 architecture) and the only project available for these is Seti@Home Beta.

Have you checked Collatz yet, they seem to support alot of different hardware too.

Yes I have it to run always because the other GPU projects never made my mouse so unresponsive. Just trying to snooze it is hard enough (way to much lag).

One more thing to ask you...are you leaving a cpu core free just to feed the gpu? If not try that and it should not only speed up your crunching times on the gpu, but also make your pc more responsive as well.

I like using my pc while crunching with BOINC and this is the only project i have had this issue with. Is there any way i can get rid of the video lag?

How many units are running at one time? If more than one then maybe, otherwise it could take lot of trial and error time adjusting your gpu settings.

I would check WUprop http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/delai.py to see what projects other people are running with your same card.

Somethings funky then, according to their stats page this comes up when I check out the top gpu's at WUProp:

Top GPU models

The following lists show the most productive GPU models on different platforms. Relative speeds, measured by average elapsed time of tasks, are shown in parentheses.
NVIDIA
No GPU tasks reported
ATI/AMD
No GPU tasks reported
Intel
No GPU tasks reported

According to an article i've found here the lightcurve inversion method you are using is highly parallelizable and therefore perfectly suited for processing on a GPU.

Are there any plans on developing a GPU application for this project?

I have processed several work units on my GPU. You are the only project that does. If you would send only gpu work, I would open the gate. My main project is WCG

There are several projects that can use a gpu for crunching, whether they can use your specific gpu I don't know, but MilkyWay, PrimeGrid, Collatz, Moo, Einstein, Poem, Seti, BitcoinUtopia and GpuGrid are some of them can use both a gpu and a cpu for crunching their workunits, and even WCG has had gpu workunits in the past.

Hello,

So I just signed up for the project and added the project to BOINC. No new tasks came, so I went to the forums and looked for Mac support forum and didn't find any..

What should I do?

Kindly note that I have a Macbook Pro '12 running on OS X Yosemite.

Thank you!

Check here:
http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/apps.php

And when I look at your pc I see one unit on the list that you aborted for some reason. http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/results.php?hostid=245049

HI!
I am trying to add a few computers to one account unsuccessfully.
When running the boinc manager I add the project, when selecting the "already a user option" i set the mail and password and the reply s that they are not correct.

Then you are entering the wrong info, I have over 10 pc's here at my house and they all use the same account when crunching for the same project. You use the exact same info for each pc, no changes what so ever, and it should work just fine.

If you click on my name, then view my pc's, then view all, you will see a list of them, that's how I did that, each pc uses the exact same email address and password and all work together, on separate units of course, but combined under one account.

Personally I'm of the opinion that if you miss the deadline then the server should tell you "sorry I'm not accepting that". Rather than shafting the 3rd person.

I agree, but way back in the old days Seti tried only sending out those '3rd tasks' to hosts that consistently returned units within 24 hours, and over 50% of the time the host crashed or something else happened and the unit did not come back in that 24 hour hoped for window. They dropped the idea and instead decided to go with what you laid out figuring that it probably wasn't started yet anyway since it was just buried in someones queue.

When I came home today, this machine had rebooted and was at the log on screen. I don't know why, it was fine when I went out. Upon logging on and the inevitable waiting whilst all the junk starts up, BOINC started and it started running 3 Asteroids work units, (and an Einstein). Two of them had elapsed times just short of 2 hours and were running, showing roughly 30% complete each. The third had an elapsed of almost three hours, and 0.0% Progress. It appears to be running normally, elapsed increasing, remaining decreasing, progress rising. It is http://ps_150702_input_78688_10 this work unit. No action taken, just watching for now.

Heat can cause that to happen, is it extra hot where your pc is?

You can contact some of the Admins here:

They are the ones writing the software, it is in the public domain so is not secret.

Since Asteroids is my number one Boinc project, I like to keep most of my PCs (especially the quad cores) racing thru the Asteroids units. And I USED TO (heavy on the USED TO) keep about a week of work to do in case of any problems. Then I saw how work backed up in the validation area, and I could lose tasks due to Boinc timeouts - work seemed to be done usually just before timing out when the queue depths are so deep and there would be timeouts if the power went out for a day or 2 - even several times a day from storms. So.. I backed off to only have a .05 day reserve with no extra days, and everything - all task units - fly thru with no backlog. HOWEVER, sometimes I end up waiting for over a week for validation as others (lol) are doing what I used to do. For example, I wondered what had happened to a task waiting to validate, I looked for it, it was assigned validation to a 6 cpu computer that has an "in progress" level of 235 tasks, waited a week there, and when timed out, assigned to another computer with a several day turnaround time. Today I sit and wonder as I have 140 (sometimes nearly 200) tasks waiting for validation, while only a dozen "in progress" and all are actually being worked one. I would just ask that some people set their queue depths a little lower. This keeps tasks from timing out - which requires the unit to be re-assigned, and all the work will all get done at the same speed, and validation won't be such a bottleneck. Thnx. (OK... I opened up a can of worms.. - Let's hear it.)

Part of the problem is projects with down times, ie Seti is a biggie in this, since we can't set our caches for each project independently on any project, you must plan for outages at those projects that frequently, my understanding is it's twice a week for Seti, and set your cache higher. This means a secondary project, like Asteroids could be, still has a 10 day cache and the tasks get delayed to users like you and I that have a much smaller cache. I myself prefer a 0.75 day cache and then keep one or more projects set at a zero percentage setting, this means whenever my main project doesn't give me work my zero percentage project will keep me going thru the outage.

I do it differently...from a non-profit organisation I make a lots of letters to companies every 2y...& they donate the computers to us!

then I upgrade them to latest CPU available 4 MBO, put lots of RAM & crunch with them...that is how I managed to get my hands on Supermicro server board with XEON...now it's 3230 with only 4GB RAM, but with nVIDIA 730GT - was the fastest @ d time purchased for PCIe x8...
;)

That's cool too! I bought a Xeon dual cpu quad core machine on ebay for 300 US dollars delivered that included Win7 Pro on it and 8gb of ram, it has 16 cpu cores with HT enabled! I bumped up the ram to 16gb and it loves it. It is a Xeon 5520 running at 2.66ghz so not the fastest, but definitely the most cores of all my pc's. It does have a pci-e slot and a 650 watt psu in it too, but I have not put a gpu in it yet, I just don't have any spares right now.
