Doesn't seem to be true, they're getting them now. An old dual core CPU was starved too, I think it's a case of waiting for the right type of tasks to appear. They appear faster than they can be processed, it's just an initial delay.

Is this still a problem? My old AMD cards (Tahiti, 280X) will not get work, they used to. Or has the new program become incompatible with them? I'm only getting CPU work.

Nothing burns your CPU unless you have inadequate cooling, this is a physical problem for you to fix and nothing to do with the project. Even it was to overheat, all CPUs will self throttle and never break.

Sorry for the off topic post, but I stayed at this campsite/B&B/kid's charity and would hate to see it closed down. Network Rail never paid them the £250K damage they caused by making a flood by blocking a stream. Now they're doing this. It seems Network Rail operate above the law.

My Android phones are set to pause Boinc when the screen is on. If I turn the screen on, then off again, Boinc pauses, then starts new tasks instead of the halfway through ones. These new tasks fail. Not sure why Boinc does this, I've reported it here: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/5402

1902 Fri, 20/10/2023 05:03:42 AM Suspending computation - computer is in use
1903 Fri, 20/10/2023 05:03:49 AM Resuming computation

These two started fresh:
1904 Asteroids@home Fri, 20/10/2023 05:03:49 AM Starting task ps_231009_input_4691_29_1
1905 Asteroids@home Fri, 20/10/2023 05:03:49 AM Starting task ps_231009_input_4963_132_2

Then immediately caused a computation error:
1907 Asteroids@home Fri, 20/10/2023 05:03:58 AM Computation for task ps_231009_input_4691_29_1 finished

OS: Android 11 and 12 (happens on two phones).
BOINC Version: 7.24.1

This is the output from one of the failed tasks:

Judging by https://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/gpu_list.php your card isn't mentioned. So either not many people are using one here, or nobody with one has managed to complete a task. I'm not sure if that lists every card used or only the popular ones.
I see yours last worked on 30 Sept. Not sure if the list I linked to above shows back that far.

Asteroids is manually reloaded, they don't always do it in time. I keep a 2 day buffer so I never run out.
Einstein usually has load of everything available. Except Gravity.

Just aborted a task that made 0,1% progress in 13H

Lucky you, I'm aborting 20 a day. I'm off on holiday for a week, I'll have to switch project for the GPUs, since these stick without user intervention. Hopefully I'll come back to a functional program.

It seems if the 280X (OpenCL 1.2) cards are failing a lot of tasks, restarting Windows cheers it up a little and reduces the number of failures.

Which suggests something is getting stuck in the card or driver even after a task has aborted.

@Simon Jäkle - I don't have a vaccine either. I didn't bother because I don't worry about small risks, I don't wear a seatbelt either. But my sister's family of four have caught covid three times after being vaccinated fully. Yet I've caught it zero times after no vaccine. We've both met the same number of people we could have caught it from. Then there's the guy who runs Universe@Home who caught it before and after the vaccine, with the same symptoms, yet the 2nd one was supposed to be the mild virus. Makes you wonder if the vaccine does more harm than good. The first instance I heard of covid was a cruise ship where everyone caught it, but 80% of people didn't even get symptoms.

@ Georgi Vidinski - Did I read something once about the possibility of mining asteroids on the way to moon/mars missions? And we were studying the composition of them? I skimmed through the article but am too busy to read it thoroughly.

LOL
Don't listen to Peter (Lamberto). He is well known for his British humor.
Nah I just call a spade a spade. Why should programmers have to write everything twice just because Apple want to be different? And it's spelt humour :-P

I have installed the pro driver on one of my 280X machines, we shall see....

Any news on a new program version Georgi?
Nope.

I'm still having to manually abort a lot of the tasks on the 280X cards (OpenCL 1.2) and a few on the Nano (OpenCL 2.0). Plus faster would be nice if you can fix that memory problem.
Have you tried the AMD Pro drivers as i suggested earlier?
No, as they're a year older. I'm sure they caused problems with other projects before. Getting those old cards to run stably is difficult enough.

P.S. I don't get this line you draw between "AMD OpenCL Issues" and "New OpenCL application for AMD GPUs". To me they're identical subjects.

@mikey : I placed the credit amount to show the assume-able output of the graphics card potential, how much improval could be achieved in the upcoming months. Participators «gathering as many points as possible» arent deeply interested in science progress or stabilisation of a project, we would agree on that. So what a credits comparisation would you have? about 1 : 20 like my octcore?
Best to compare your CPU to your GPU here, then compare your CPU to your GPU at Einstein. Unless the GPU Asteroids program gets a lot faster, it's very slow, and better running on the CPUs.

why are too many people concerned about so-called safety issues about boinc, like «win 7 does not receive any support anymore, we guess that we have to abandon it», whilst many people have complications with windows 10 in common uses.
I've never known Windows 7 to catch fire. What is this "risk"? I don't open weird attachments in emails. If I download something dodgy on purpose from something like Piratebay I scan it with an AV or send it to virustotal.

Cybercrime should be punished heavier, because it's making harmed people distrust, inflicting damages, to technology that already isnt explained detailed enough.
Some people are fighting it - https://www.youtube.com/@ScammerPayback/videos and I reported this website to every organisation under the sun, they used to sell non existant eggs and birds: https://parrotsaviaryfarm.co.uk/ - looks like it worked, the site has gone. I went after him from multiple angles, including informing his bank, hopefully they got some money back from him and returned it to unsuspecting customers.

I have like gremlins lurking in my pc's without having much in there that would attract things like malware. I try too hard.
What gremlins do you have?

Furtherly i would like too see which WU/thread works on which asteroid, if the asteroid number were showed. I would appreciate if i get some idea what the calculations are about,
Agreed, perhaps there is or could be a list of asteroids, and we could use the task name in boinc to find it.

because with «corona vaccine in rosetta@home» almost two winters ago i felt like having contributed to a project that was rushed in impatiently, just taking away computational potential, (artificial) mRNA doesnt pay off, just worsening people, i would say.
Their skycovione is meant to be way better than the others. But they're still using the others aswell as far as I know. Maybe there isn't enough being made? I'm not sure, because I never got vaccinated, I don't worry about a virus.

As a person with over 1 Trillion total Boinc credits or "points" I can tell you that all those "points" and $10US will get me a cup of coffee at a Starbucks coffee shop but without the $10US I am not getting anything!!
Ten dollars for 1 coffee?!? Better making it at home. Probably 10 cents. I think 10 dollars here in McDonalds gets you a burger, fries, and the coffee, and some change.

That's because he used Bing, I've never found anything on Bing but adverts, it's made by Microsoft, and nothing by Microsoft ever works. Try Google, or even better, Duckduckgo (then you get to tell people to duck it!)

the AMD bundle includes drivers for many cards, but the exact opencl/display driver version always depends on your specific card. Unfortunately, you can't upgrade it separately.
It would probably be a bad idea to do so. I've had problems in the past with two similar cards on one machine, and the driver doesn't get on with one of them. You'd think it could have two drivers installed....
