Ipek University has the distinction of being Turkey’s first arts and social sciences university. Offering degrees only in arts and social sciences, the main purpose of the university is to encourage specialization in certain areas while making the biggest investment in the most neglected fields of study in Turkey. Thus, programs in Management and Administrative Sciences, Cinematic Arts, Political Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Art and Design, and Law will be given priority. In addition to undergraduate programs, Ipek University will also offer graduate programs and is planning to enroll the same number of graduate students as undergraduate students. Today’s universities should be concerned about critical issues in the world. Particularly, more extensive analyses are needed to determine recent trends among foreign students from different countries who will pursue degrees at Ipek University. Ipek is proud to provide international students with a modern infrastructure and a rich educational environment for intellectual growth that is to be found only at the world’s top-ranking universities. The university is eager to share Turkey’s political, economic and cultural riches with the rest of the world. VISION Ipek University considers industrial, artistic, social and cultural productivity to be an integral part of university education. Ipek University is built upon two pillars: education and practice. By integrating educational knowledge with practical ability, the administrative and faculty staff will nurture students’ intellectual, professional and personal growth. The educational pillar of Ipek University consists of theoretical as well as practical knowledge representing formal and non-formal educational activities. The other pillar consisting of sectoral practices includes commercial enterprises where the teaching staff, field experts, technical staff and students work in collaboration with one another. The main goal of Ipek is to ensure that information produced by research, education and training, together with the activities of the research centers, will contribute to the global advancement of knowledge. Enterprises that are established through active participation by the faculty and students will help to turn theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Revenues from the university’s operations will be allocated to student scholarships and the İpek University model will be implemented, whereby almost all students are given assistance in meeting their education expenses. EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY Ipek University was founded to promote intellectual growth and academic excellence in the fields of arts and social sciences and its founding philosophy is based upon addressing needs in these areas. The university's educational philosophy is grounded in the aim of “reintegrating the disunited human being.†Ipek University perceives sociology and history, literature and psychology, political science and anthropology as disciplines intertwined with one another, and aims at identifying those that will serve as the foundation, those that will be the walls built on this foundation, and the roof that will hold all of them together. The university curriculum is composed of a diverse set of academic offerings and requirements based on an inter-disciplinary and supra-disciplinary approach. Ipek ​University’s educational system also allows “internal transfers†for students. |
