Your personal background.
What: What is the email really about? What is the objective?
Be clear about the survey’s purpose and why you’re doing it.

Why: Why should readers participate? Are you offering an incentive, like a coupon? How will the survey results
be valuable to you? How: How should readers engage,
and how long will it take? Is it less than 5 minutes? Make
sure the next steps are clear. Where: Where should readers click?

Use one strong, compelling call-to-action button. It should be
obvious to readers where to click to participate.
When: When is the due date? Create urgency
by providing a deadline. Consider doing a drip email campaign with two or
three messages to remind subscribers to complete your survey.

In this invitation from 23andMe, a genomics and
biotechnology company, the letter-style message gets straight to the point.

This survey email example answers all of the important questions: What the
message is about (genetics research), why the survey is important (to help improve research efforts), how readers should engage (by answering as many or as few
questions as they’d like), how long it will take (a
few seconds), and where to click (an obvious “Submit Your Answer” CTA button).

One account that shared the photographs
on Nov. 2 said: “Look at the huge change in the
last 100 years… Examples of the meme on social
media are viewable (here), (here), (here), (here). The black and white image was taken in 1917 by photographer W.
L. Drummond (here). Experts told Reuters that two side-by-side photos did
not in themselves prove anything about how much sea level
has risen or the impact of the change. Tide gauge measurements produced by the National Ocean and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) at The
Battery, New York, near the Statue of Liberty, from 1855 to today, show a trend
of an approximate 2.9mm rise in sea level every year
(here). “This amount is small compared to the 5-foot range between low and high
tide, so you would need carefully timed photos (at the same
point in the tidal cycle, on a day when the tides were of comparable scale) for there to
be a visual difference,” Robert Kopp, Professor
at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and Director of the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub at Rutgers University,
told Reuters via email.

Further information on The Colonial Service Training
Courses can be found here. It was The Colonial Office conference
of 1927 which finally recommended the unification of all the territorial services and functional branches into a single HM Colonial Service for the
first time. This new Colonial Service was divided into sixteen separate services.
1944 saw the establishment of the Devonshire Committee to
consider a new look training regime for the Colonial Service in a Post-War World
that saw development as more important than ever.
These training programs became known as the 'Devonshire Courses'.
The committee was seeking to professionalise the service yet further with yet more pertinent courses, further
encouraging language skills, technical knowledge and
providing opportunities to enhance officers' training at a
later date. However, the timing was less than fortuitous as
calls for independence and decolonisation meant that the Colonial Office would find it harder and harder to
attract recruits who might wonder how long their careers may in reality last.
