During the Bush years, Koch Industries and different fossil-fuel firms loved exceptional prosperity.
The 2005 power bill, which Hillary Clinton dubbed the
Dick Cheney Lobbyist Energy Bill, offered monumental subsidies and tax
breaks for energy firms. David and Charles had absorbed their
father’s conservative politics, but they did not share all
his views, based on diZerega, who befriended
Charles in the mid-sixties, after assembly him while
shopping in a John Birch Society bookstore in Wichita.
Charles eventually invited him to the Kochs’ mansion, to participate in a casual political-discussion group.
“It was fairly clear that Charles thought a variety
of the Birch Society was bullshit,” diZerega recalled. The gala marked the social ascent of Koch,
who, at the age of seventy, has turn out to be one of many city’s most outstanding philanthropists.
In 2008, he donated 100 million dollars to modernize
Lincoln Center’s New York State Theatre constructing, which
now bears his name. He has given twenty million to
the American Museum of Natural History, whose dinosaur wing is named for him.
