The Maori tattoo, known as "ta moko," holds profound cultural significance within the indigenous Maori community of
New Zealand. Far more than a form of body art, the ta moko is
a sacred and deeply symbolic practice that embodies the rich heritage, spirituality, and identity
of the Maori people.

On the right side of his neck, Tyson has a swallow tattoo.
Swallows are often associated with freedom and a free-spirited
nature. This tattoo may symbolize Tyson’s journey, his quest for personal freedom, and his ability to overcome challenges.

Perhaps one of the least surprising Mike Tyson facts is
his wandering eye. But according to him, so did
one of his ex-wives. Tyson wrote in his autobiography
that his first wife, Robin Givens, had an affair with movie star Brad Pitt.

Of Tyson’s three marriages, to Robin Givens, Monica Turner, and Lakiha Spicer, two ended in divorce.

Though Tyson is still married to Spicer,
whom he wed in 2009, Givens described her one-year marriage to the boxer as “torture,
pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine.” And Turner alleged that Tyson had committed adultery.

Throughout his career, he was known for his knockout power,
winning many of his fights by knockout in the early rounds.
Tyson’s career also featured significant challenges, including legal issues
and a highly publicised conviction for rape in 1992, which led to
a prison sentence.

By placing the tattoo on his face, Tyson was challenging societal norms and expectations
of how a public figure should look. In many cultures, tattoos are still associated with criminality, deviance,
or rebellion, and they are often stigmatized.

For a professional athlete like Tyson, who was already known for
his brash personality and confrontational style, getting a facial tattoo could have been perceived as a risky move that
might hurt his image or career prospects.

Meaning: On Mike’s left forearm, there is a tattoo of
his ex-wife, Monica Turner, whom he married on April 19, 1997.
However, the couple got legally separated on January
14, 2003. Monica had filed for divorce from Mike in January 2002, claiming that Mike had committed
adultery during their five-year marriage.

Mike Tyson’s tattoos are more than just ink; they symbolise his life’s journey through success and adversity.
Each design tells a story of resilience and personal growth, reflecting the spirit of one of boxing’s greatest legends.
As Tyson gears up for his upcoming bout against
Jake Paul, his iconic tattoos remind us of his enduring legacy both inside
and outside the ring.

But the controversy from the original tattoo wasn't the last of it.
In THE HANGOVER PART II an exact copy of Tyson's tattoo was featured on the face of actor Ed Helms as part of a humorous plot
device. Whitmill was outraged, and claimed copyright over his
tattoo. In 2011 he sued Warner, arguing that they had violated his exclusive right
to authorize derivative works. Whitmill's decision to sue stirred lingering resentments in Aotearoa/New Zealand around
the tattoo's cultural content: in response to the litigation, Maori politician Tau Henare
tweeted that it was a “a bit rich” that Tyson's tattooist was claiming someone had stolen the design,
given that he had copied it from Maori without permission.
