A run of bad work units apparently has been generated. I have just downloaded 5 work units. 4 immediately failed with permanent HTTP download errors, which I immediately reported by pushing the Update button once I spotted the errors. 2 of those failures have had multiple failed results from other users as of this writing.

Is the Asteroids@home server's file system corrupted, or is its hard drive failing? See http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/workunit.php?wuid=26733314 Results 0 and 1 failed due to being sent to Android Lollipop devices that can't handle this project's pre-Lollipop-only Android application. Result 2 managed to get all of the required files and completed it successfully. All subsequent results are unable to get one of the required files due to permanent HTTP errors. This suggests either a corrupted file system or a failing hard drive.

I've had about 800 of those download errors last few days. I hope something gets fixed.

Appears the Http download errors have been fixed until the next time they appear.
I was able to download 2 task without any problems in the last 5 minutes.

I just got another permanent HTTP error, so the problem still exists. I am also getting failed MD5 checks (which means that the file or the MD5 hash is corrupt) and wrong-sized file errors.

Add me to the list. Almost every download fails.

It's been going on for a long time now.

Ive got nearly as meany errors (due to download failures) as I have valid tasks.

Some of my workstations are dormant for hours at a time as a a workunit is getting stuck downloading and preventing other units from downloading.

Or I get download failed for many units in a row until it finally downloads a good one.

This project must have been running at about 50% capacity for nearly a week now.

I see ~ 20% download errors in my statistics and also crunched but never validated wu's due to too many errors.

I mean, this problem exists now for a really long time. Personal problems or not, it's time to solve them. The project is on risc to loose many crunchers.

Last time it was this long he had a death in the family, I'm not sure ANYONE can use the words 'too long' in a case like that. He will fix it, he had some help lined up but they couldn't handle it, he is juggling things and sometimes things get shuffled to the back burner. My suggestion for anyone TOO frustrated is to take a break for a bit and come back after it's fixed. If you can manage the "20%" errors then stay and keep on crunching!

+1 on Mikey`s points, i`m in full agreement with his thoughts. This is the only project my computers crunch data for,and i have learned over time, that things will get sorted at some point, so patience is the answer, either that ,or as mikey suggests, crunch data for another project until things are back to normal.

best regards,

Tom.

Now it seems all the work downloads end up permanent HTTP errors. Can't get any work at least for one host, even after trying "update" for several times.

looking at the status page, it showing only 3 tasks to be sent out, as a result, i`m not getting any new W/U`s at the moment, i dare say new W/U`s will be added at some point and soon as possible.

regards,

Tom

No news at all from the project itself, lots of conjecture from other users, but no real news or updates on the task situation.

This project is obviously dying, it has been neglected for weeks now with continuous download failures, now no tasks at all.

If the people running the project cannot support the project I don't think I can either any more. Time to move to another project.

Sometimes LIFE is more important that we who choose to donate our pc resources, he will get back to us when he can. He is probably the one who shut off making new workunits due to the download problems, remember he is a one man Admin group as the people he chose to help him weren't up to the task. I'm sure he is still looking for help, but as with anything finding the right person is critical.

Personally I think it common courtesy to keep contributors to his project up dated, rather than just completely ignoring them and allowing workstations to grind to a halt when they could be used for other projects.

All of these people who contribute their hardware to these projects deserve no less. Or maybe distributed computing does not need volunteers and their hardware, maybe we are all just of no consequence!

Maybe he needs a lesson in PR, but not an issue, I am dedicating my processors to other projects now. It horrifies me to see wasted processing power because the contributor is not updated and ignored.

Maybe you need a lesson, why not simply read "Posts by Kyong"?:
